Her upper structures are coming down. She has lost her top deck so far along with quite a few holes cut into her hull.

That's so sad. You'd think with today's processes, something could have been done to save the ship.

That is SO sad!!! It's just heartbreaking for such a venerable ocean liner to be in such dire straights and heading to the junk heap. A damn shame!

More photos of her breakup. Don't click if you don't want to see this ship slowly being taken apart.

Strange how those pics bother us. Just doesn't seem right to do that to something that took so much time and money to build, and gave so many people such happiness.(or sadness in some cases )
What even more bothersome are those houses at the waters edge. I'm sure everyone saw that tv special that showed the illness and poverty of those people involved in the dismanteling of ships.

weren't they the devil to pull off..... would never do it nowadays, there wouldn't be any hair left.
Why do they cut those scattered square holes in the ship?
And why do they cut the tip off first?

Square holes to throw the insides of the ship outside. Top down so it does not fill with water or tip over and kill a bunch of very poor workers.

I remember this dining room. Very beautiful but also very noisy. I have some tape of my cruise on this ship and this dining room is included. She was a one of a kind ship never to be repeated.

Maybe its the pragmatist in me but I have no issue with this practice (other than the pollution it causes) As we used to say in the Navy..."One day your sailing her, the next your shaving with her"
They have to go somewhere when the are past their prime and its better being dismantled than having tons of oil, asbesto's and other nastiness sitting on the bottom of the ocean slowing breaking down and poluting the sea.

I sailed on The Norway in the mid 80's.......and although she was not my favorite ship, she still had so much history and was a Grand Dame. Very, very sad indeed.

I also cruised on the Norway but it was back in 94. The ship itself was great and so much history but the on board product left a lot to be desired. I remember when NCL placed her into service. She was the talk of cruising for quite a while.

We never got to sail on her. We were booked for a November sailing a few months after her engines went.
