Hi Jim,

they said NO on our request. I hope our TA can figure out something. For us it's a price drop of US$ 800 for the two of us!!!

I got the expected answer No. I will keep working on it. It seems some on the other roll call got the new fares.

Our grade(G) is still more than we paid but the difference to a BA through the TA is now around $50pp so looking to actualy pay for an upgrade(and stick a romance pack on at the same time) but BestPriceCruises seem to be an on-line agent that don't like using email duh no reply to 2 emails.
(havn't check the rules but asumed TA names are ok here)

TA names and even prices are fine here - did you notice no ads. There is even a board to share your favorite TA.

Nice to see some familiar faces here. ;)

Phil, it seems we're using the same travel agent. Shoot me an email and I can give you a contact for a supervisor there...  am1am at yahoo ... as of yet we've not had our price reduced, but FWIW at least there's some back and forth now between BestPriceCruises and NCL.

Fight on!  ::waves two fingers back::

How did you let him go over to that dark side?! ;)  USC-UCLA is December 1 this year -- we'll already be in Barcelona.  But some solace can be taken as 'SC tend to win when I'm travelling, riding a 7-game win streak.

With Jim's notice of good fares still remaining for this crossing, Sharon and I have just booked two inside cabins.  We will be meeting you all onboard in Barcelona.  This will be our very first European trip, so will appreciate any advice on arrival at airport, transport to the pier, language problem expectations, money exchange from US$, etc.

:proud: Just two newbies from the central states in the US.  We also have South America around the horn Nov 2008.  Expanding our horizons!

Welcome aboard

Consider a couple of nights pre cruise in Barcelona to at least see a little of Europe after flying for 10 hours.

Welcome Dave & Sharon!  Whereabouts in MN are you from? I grew up in Minnetonka, and still have family across the Twin Cities.

Are you spending any pre-cruise time in Barcelona? (see Jim's got the idea)

As far as currency, the best rate you'll probably get at ATMs in Spain, and IIRC there are one or two in the airport terminal... though some folks like to exchange a few bucks into euros before leaving the States (rate not nearly as good), just enough for cab/bus fare etc.  I never noticed a language barrier in Barcelona, quite likely most people you'll encounter have decent English ability, much better than my Spanish or Catalan.

We live in Circle Pines, northern edge of the Twin Cities.  Looking forward to the trip.  Thanks for the input.

When you suggest a stay in Barcelona I think of a decent hotel for a good nites sleep and a tour via the hotel concierge.  Is that what you and Jim are suggesting?

I picked up the two night precruise special from NCL. The ship leaves on Monday soyou can fly in friday night and have a full day and a half to enjoy the city. I have no idea yet where I am going. I figure buy ato day pass on the HOHO(hop on hop off) bus and go from there. Some of us are meeting on sunday afternoon for drinks in Barcelona details to be decided

If you do come in the day of the cruise consider NCL transfers $25 per person and no need to get euros for a cab.

It's definitely worth pricing out both ways: what NCL offers pre-cruise vs. what can be done independently. Hotels in Barcelona do run the gamut in terms of price, quality, and location -- and these factors do not always have direct correlations.  But since this is your first time, the HOHO (sounds like a bad-for-you snack, doesn't it?!) is a good idea:

Several hotels are located on the routes, and a two-day pass is a decent deal, especially considering it also offers discounts to admissions here and there.

Sharon and I spent the day looking over flights and hotels.  Lot's to choose from.  Found a good deal with a one-way out of BOS.  :proud: There are so many hotels to choose from, does anyone on board have a good referal?

I'm using vesseltracker.

They provide Google Earth integration

As far as I know the first destination will be the Oslofjord,  south-east of Norway.

Depends on your budget and priorities.  We're booked at the Hotel Regencia Colón where I've previously stayed, in the Gothic Quarter, for about $100/nite... their site shows sold out right now, while their sister Hotel Colón next door shows on kayak.com for about $200/nite.  I like this area, which has many hotels, as it's within walking distance to many of the major sites and will give an 'authentic' feel to your stay.  Sites like tripadvisor.com are a decent way to narrow down the process as well.

I have been looking at hotels in Barcelona and trying to decide.  I have noticed that many room discriptions list "sound proof" also some of the reviews I have read make mention of noise.  Has anyone experience in this area?   It appears that  the SO HO or the Grand Marina are pretty nice.

Checked it today and the Gem is not in port. Looks like a 24 update vs 1-2hr. I love the linkage to Gooogle Earth.
