I priced AutoTran for our trip in March .First I prefer to fly out of Atlantic City only a hour away but right now Spirit is still over 1,000 for the four of us Always able to get a great price not this time .We like Spirit . I can get AutoTran from Newark or LaGuardia for a little over 800 nonstop We only do nonstop.I haven't booked it yet but I probably will not .I also see that they are cheap but they CHARGE YOU to pick out your seat beforehand . It may only be a few dollars but I think it is insane. We pay for the luggage on Spirit but only 5 dollars and they give you a break if you do it early. That annoys me too but a least I don'tb have to pay for seat selection
Remember when they served you a hot meal. Not a good meal but food .Snacks and drinks . Then we went to a light snack a sandwich then it was pretzels and always a drink to nothing. Now we are lucky they don't strap us on the wings of the plane. and make us flap our arms .

Yes, I have heard about this. We chose NOT to choose our seats in advance. AirTran does assign seats in advance of the actual flight and if you purchase your tickets together, I hear they are good about assigning those seats together.
They also allow you to check in on-line 24 hours ahead and you can either choose the seats then or at least see where they have assigned you seats. Something like that.
We're flying them because they were the cheapest , they had a good reputation with the folks over the the transportation board at the DIS AND because they are one of the participating airlines where you can check-in for your flight at the Disney Resorts. Just check-in your luggage at the resort and get your boarding pass too.
I'll know if I will be flying them ever again after our April trip.
Oh, and I hear that if your fare drops, AirTran will issue you a credit for the fare difference (same class of fare) that is valid for a year. Of course, my fares have been going up, up, up! I'm glad I got our tickets already.

| AirTran was my airline of choice for several years. I only changed to Midwest to get the direct flights out of KC. If I couldn't go with Midwest, I'd certainly go with AirTran again. Never had a problem with them.

My mom has used them and liked it.
I just have to see if it's worth the drive plus the traffic for 39 dollars. The parking will be much more also .La Guardia is not our best airport I also would pay for the seats because my kids will be with us and I would be to nervous that we wouldn't be sitting with them .Spirit is so worth the extra few dollars in airfare just for the conscience alone.I'm waiting because if I can't get a fare that is good we will drive like we have done for the past few years.I want 99 with Spirit .It has come down to 139 and a month ago it was over 200
The drive is fine Not so bad I get my Wafflehouse fix We stay in South Carolina and I can take as many suitcases as I want

Lee, I would pay a little more for the convenience and stay at an airport closer to home. I think the airfares will be a bit higher than we have been use to paying because one - it IS during a major holiday and two because the fuel costs are so much higher.
I figure that driving will be more expensive than usual also because of the higher prices at the pump, so it evens out the higher airfare, in my mind.
Driving can be fun too and you are going for a longer trip. No way I would make the drive for only one week though.

We took Air Tran out of Milwaukee to Florida on our 2006 cruise. Not bad-if you don't mind being packed like sardines. Delta last year was better. For Vegas, we're taking Midwest Express-now they're a nice airline. Seats are comfy, service is good. At least they were years ago.- Guess I'll find out next month. . .

We did Airtran to Maine at Christmas. The upgrade to Business Class is well worth it but I guess if the plane goes down it dont really matter!

Oh, Ok....that sounds more reasonable. I thought you started in "bama.
When I flew it when it was still ValueJet, you could not get advances seats. It was an open cattle call.
Can you get advanced seat assignments now? That would make it a lot better, imho.

| AirTran doesn't seem to have the great fares they used to, but nobody does... I don't like Air Tran because I have to connect through Atlanta on EVERY flight... I flew to NYC, from NC and connected in Atlanta!! Crazy... I generally avoid them for that reason, but they are a fine airline...

You no what scared me when I was searching for airfare and found Air Tran First only ONE Flight a day Non stop 50 others with stops .Okay so we will sitting on a full flight which I am not used to because Spirit is never like that and the seats are still comfortable . But when I saw that I was going to be CLASS Z and to pay for the upgrade I will just fly right from AC on Spirit I thought how much lower can I go It was the cheapest flight but I have a feeling this very dysfunctional family MINE will not be able to handle it.

Airtran is my carrier of choice. Satellite radio at each seat and great prices, even for last minute flights.
As for the ValueJet issue, most airlines, if not all, have had flight issues so if you are going to count one out you might have to cut them all.

Came in handy one time when I had to fly during a Red Sox vs. Yankees game. Got to hear the entire game on the satellite
