Get to the pier early - From NCL.com

At this time, we are not altering any of our ships' itineraries. However, the weather conditions may necessitate that Norwegian Sky leave Miami earlier than scheduled tomorrow, August 18, 2008. Therefore, we are requesting that all guests scheduled to board Norwegian Sky tomorrow, Monday, August 18, 2008, arrive at the Port of Miami and be in the boarding process between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Fay made a major turn to the north overnight.   It is now over Cuba and will exit the north side this morning.   Winds still 50.   Rain has picked up a lot but still most is to the east of the eye but more is occuring to the north of the eye.

Both Miami and the Bahamas will see rain starting today, with the Bahamas seeing gusty winds but none to tropical storm force.   Miami will be iffy starting tonight.

As you can see by the projected path below, which has moved east again due to the major turn, it is very uncertain if this will become a hurricane or not.   If it hits southern Florida, the chances are slim.   Further up the west coast, it may hit Cat 1.

New update from NCL and the Sky

Because of the current expected path of Tropical Storm Fay, Norwegian Sky will depart Miami today at 3:00 p.m. EST., two hours earlier than scheduled. Embarkation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and all guests must be on board by 2:00 p.m. EST.

Fay has now moved off the north coast of Cuba.   Winds are up to 60.   It's still not too organized but showing signs of doing so.

Moderate to heavy rains from Bahamas to Miami and across most of south Florida.

The Sky will have some choppiness and rain through till tomorrow afternoon.

Since it went the short route across Cuba, there was no sapping of strength and winds now 60, this may end up a Cat 1, at least, prior to hitting Florida.

I edited this because I had a Dumbass Attack.   I wrote Bermuda instead of the Bahamas.

There will always be some that don't. Who would not check statrus with a storm approaching  I know the same idiots as always. NCL has been dialing for dollars and sending emails but there will always those that have been travelling and remain out of the loop. Just hope they have insurance.

Those trying to fly in today might learn why you have to fly in a day in advance.:shoot me:

Winds still at 60 but the pressure has dropped a bit showing a bit of organization.   It will most likely hit west Florida in 12 to 14 hours so it doesn't have all that long to strenghten but still could hit Cat 1.

The stronger winds are tight near the eye so unless that changes, the eye will have to come close to you for anything major.   Otherwise, major rains for most of Florida.

Two sources.   One says Fay will exit NE Florida, skirt the coast a bit and out to sea.   Another says exit NE Florida, skirt the coast a bit, and then turn NW towards Atlanta.   If it does the latter, this may brings those rains northern Georgia and the Carolinas need to help fill those empty lakes.

Miami   -    Aug 18, 2008   ---
Norwegian Cruise Line is closely monitoring the path of Tropical Storm Fay as the safety and security of our guests and crew is of the utmost importance.

Because of the current expected path of Tropical Storm Fay, Norwegian Sky will depart Miami today at 3:00 p.m. EST, two hours earlier than scheduled. Embarkation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and all guests must be on board by 2:00 p.m. EST.

In order to deliver the best guest experience in the Bahamas, Norwegian Sky's itinerary has been altered slightly. The ship will now call Nassau on Tuesday and Grand Bahama Island on Wednesday.

In addition, the United States Coast Guard has closed Port Canaveral to ship traffic on Tuesday; therefore Norwegian Spirit, currently on a six-day Bahamas & Florida sailing, will proceed directly to Nassau, Bahamas and arrive at 8 am on Wednesday.

NCL will continue to closely monitor the weather conditions and will update this information as necessary. We thank our guests for their cooperation and understanding

Stand by for the ruined vacations - we only got two ports I want half my money back, the whole cruise was to get to Disney, our private tours were lost, and NCL is a no class line.

Yep, the large area of rain is now to their north.   Should be just bands of showers for the next 12 to 18 hours.

That's fine with me on the Dawn!

Perfect weather to enjoy some tea and fish 'n chips at The Blue Lagoon!

Too much shear now (10-15kt) now so current intensity models do NOT bring this to 74mph needed for CAT1.  Certainly good news for the folks on the Gulf side of the system.  Good thing too as the waters are very warm and deep.  This could've easily been a re-run of Charley.

What Dave just said plus, the steering currents has just shifted the direction a bit more to the east.   They now expect landfall to be Naples or to the south of Naples which means some of the energy will be obsorbed over gatorland.

For you in NE Florida, they seem to be more concerned about this after it exits Florida up your way.   Not much in the way of waves now as the storm is so compact but they expect more up your way.

Fay went ashore south of Naples at Cape Romano at 5 am EDT.   Winds still 60.

At 6 am, winds at Bonita Springs, about 20 miles from the eye, were at 30 with gusts to 45.   Miami had gusts to 38 so wind more than 20 miles from the eye won't be too bad.

Here's the kicker.   Now they are saying it will exit Florida in the NE, come back in around Jacksonville, then go west along the GA/FL border to the AL/FL border and "perhaps" turn south and go back into the gulf.

Fay may end up taking three shots at Florida.
