Yep! We're making our annual trek to Deer Valley....we've been going skiing there every year for about 14 years!!!!!!  We love it!

You'll get a chuckle out of this one then.  Life-long Utah resident here, and NEVER been skiing!  MY DH went a couple of times as a teen, but I've never even put on a pair of skis. :big grin:

After dislocating my knee very painfully as a teen, I decided that skiing, since I was such a klutz, was not in my future.

OUCH!

I water-skied years ago, being from Florida, but snow skiing was something I just couldn't get into.  I took private lessons out at Deer Valley for 2 years in a row several years ago, but it just wasn't my thing.  So, I come out every year with my DH, & he enjoys sking and I enjoy shopping in Park City and reading & relaxing!!!

We've got about a quarter inch of ice (on top of 3" of snow):

Columbia got lucky (for now)....  just 15 min south of us is still without power.  They're calling for round 2 to start later this evening and into tomorrow....  cross your fingers!

Amy, I've been wondering about you and your weather. Glad to see things aren't too bad there yet. Tonight and tomorrow may be another story.

Yeah, I know...  we're just waiting basically....  we could just skirt the edge of the storm again this time - but it depends on how it moves.   We could either be right in the middle of it and get another half inch or more of ice, or we could maybe even get nothing!

Let me tell you something about ice.  As fascinated as I am with weather one thing I've learned after coming incredibly close to being killed in an ice storm is treat it with respect.  No I'm not talking about a car accident, I'm talking about an avalanche of icicles half a foot thick and ten feet long shooting at you like bullets in the wilderness! I'm not keen on miracles but if they exist, that is one for the books.

There's bad storms and worse but one thing experience tells you it can ALWAYS be worse no matter how bad it seems!  Just a friendly reminder!

Freezing spray on the coast!  That will teach you to find a better parking spot!

And of course don't expect electricity for weeks!

Speaking of losing electricity I met a family from Canada that survived that storm in 1998.  They had to chop up their furniture and burn it for heat in a woodstove when they ran out of wood in order to prevent them from freezing to death!

Amy, I love your neighbourhood. Are the lots as large as they appear? I remember one of your other storm pics that should the house on the curve (? across the street) and they look large.

Well the people across the street have an exceptionally large lot...  but yes, the lots in this neighborhood are fairly large in general - but that's not really "typical".  :big grin:

You too Amy! I'm pretty sure we won't be open at the office tomorrow so I'm planning to stay in the house until Wednesday. That rain is freezing. I checked our deck where it looked wet. Nope. It's ice!

Well, still here and still have power (obviously). Highways and major streets are looking good but side streets aren't as good. Our office is closed as are most of the schools and many government offices.

I hope Amy, Kristy and jc are okay as we're all in the areas hit by rain/freezing rain. We haven't heard from Kristy down in Oklahoma in a couple of days and they got hit pretty hard down there. 32,000 without power up in St. Joseph, Mo., where Bobbi Jo and one of my co-workers live.

Hang in there, you guys!  I'm getting nervous now, as my daughter just called me from Milwaukee-the storm is headed their way.  She's scared about driving to work.  I told her to stay home, but she's bringing all her animals in to work (She works at a vet's office, with kennels) because they have a plumber coming in today.  :praying:

tell her to be careful.  Calm and clear here today, but we have 3 storms lined up to come on through.  Looks like the weekend one might be the worst one.

More stuff headed to us then on up north/northeast. Here are a few pics from this morning. Streets are in good shape as I had to run to the store so I checked. This is not supposed to be the case later. More freezing rain.

If we make it through the night without losing power, then the worst of it is over for now. I can see the ice on the trees in the lights from the streetlights. We have a couple of smaller limbs down, but nothing I can't pick up myself. My arbor just off the deck fell over with the weight of the ice. Other than that, no major problems. I've seen it much worse.

I tried to call Kristy, but got her voicemail. I'm guessing with all the ice they got down in Oklahoma, the cell towers may be out as well as the electricity.

DUMB CANUCKS HAVE GONE MAD......

what's with this?? is this a new method of plowing...
-bring in the freeway graders, and make crop circles in the middle of your subdivision court???
this nut bar backed up on my street 33 x this morning at 0655, then drove circles (about 65x) around a pile of snow in the center of the street circle.
Don't those graders wreck the pavement? There's paint chips flying off my walls this morning..... the dog took off shaking and hiding.
They're mad I tell you...... last week was final yard waste day. Rule #1- have all yard waste bagged, tied and sorted and on curb by 0700 Monday am - DONE
Ok, it's 9 days later, snowed and rained like heck, and everyone's yard waste was picked up except for ours...... there's 11 frkn bags out there... STUFFED, and Frozen, now mounded with snow...........
Time for me to take on town hall ....... again (I really am getting like Gladys Kravitz)
