Victor Bodden's tour company, Bodden Tours, has been GREAT both times we have been to Roatan.

The first trip, on the NCL Dream, was amazing.  He really showed us so much of his home in the few hours that our ship was in port:  a trip to a zipline, great photo ops (sunken ships, scenic overlooks, etc.), an iguana farm, the most beautiful snorkeling off-the-beach at West Bay, great lunch of the best coconut shrimp I've ever had, etc.  All of these things, plus a trip to his home to see Spider monkeys, Howler monkeys and an anteater, in the 5 hours that we had in Roatan!  His tour made us appreciate his home...and want to see it again.  As we left, we felt like we were leaving a member of our family...what a woderful, honest and caring man!

Our last trip, for a week, Bodden Tours drivers met us each morning (at a pre-arranged time) and took us somewhere different each day:  Fishing just off of West Bay where we caught Tuna and Barracuda, the Ziplines, the Iguana Farm, a tour of all the new development around Roatan.  In honesty, we did arrange this visit mostly to see Victor again -- we had kept in contact via email and his website.  We helped him move into a new house that he had built...and were very well taken care of on our visit!

When considering an excursion in Roatan, I like to recommend Victor Bodden and Bodden Tours.  He has many, many reviews and photos on his website:  http://www.boddentours.com  The rates are shown online, as well.  I'd be happy to answer any questions...as I'm always "Dreaming of Roatan!"

Thanks for posting!  THat's good to know and I'll certainly make a note of that.
I have not been to Roatan before, but I know they ahve good scuba diving there and I know some divers that have done a land-based dive trip there.

What was your experience there with mosquito's?  I have heard they can be quite bad.

The scuba is supposed to be awesome...lots of dive boats went out each morning from the West Bay hotels.  I enjoyed the snorkeling from the shore... so many colorful fish and beautiful corals -- I can only imagine what it would be like to see it all from up close, instead of from "above"!

The sand fleas didn't bother us -- the resort hotels along West Bay rake their sand each morning, which "in theory" kills the larvae or eggs or something!  We did spray our feet each morning with "Cactus Juice" which was available for sale everywhere as a preventative.  It's made in the states and I had ordered it from their website before we headed south this last time.  The first visit, we were not bothered by sand fleas or mosquitos, either...

Some of the folks on our return airplane trip had lots of bites from their knees down, so I know that those sand flea bugs are active "somewhere" on the island.  I definitely will use the Cactus Juice next time we visit, as I'd much rather be safe than sorry!  Plus, it's an odor free lotion (or spray)...and doesn't feel greasy like some bug repellants, so it was really no biggie.

As far as "real" mosquitos, I didn't get any bites the week we were there.  I'm usually a mosquito magnet, so I expected at least a couple of bites, but nada!  The US Dept of Health does recommend an anti-malarial for extended stays, so we popped those pills starting the week before -- and just finishing up the last one last week.  I guess those mosquitos knew I was prepared for them and decided to leave me alone!  It was quite breezy the week we were there, so they may have just been having problems finding a safe landing zone on me (however, after all the food I ate down there, I can't see how they missed this HUGE target!)

There you go...Now, I'm back to dreaming about Roatan!

We went with Victor Bodden's tours when we were in Roatan 2 years ago.  I agree-they literally made Roatan our favorite stop of all the islands we've been to.  It's so personalized to what YOU want to do, and they make sure that you are back to the ship on time.  They also took us to all the highlights, Fantasy Island, iguana farm, scenic spots, including shipwrecks.  Our guide Julio was so informative, and really displayed a love for his home. I couldn't recommend it enough!!!

The tour sounds great! I have yet to visit Roatan, but when I do, I want to make the best use of my time. This sounds just like what I would do given the opportunity. Thanks for the tip on the Cactus Juice too. ;)

Even though my cruise isn't until March, I emailed Victor yesterday to see if I could book a tour.  Your opinion, plus those on CC, convinced me that this is a must-do.
