Ok, guys, it's been 20 years since I've been to Vegas, and I'm going in February.  Anyone got any ideas or suggestions of "Must See's" for me, since it will all be new?  So far I've got :

M & M Store

Toby Keith's Bar and Grill

New aquarium at Golden Nugget

I plan on hitting some of the new, big Casinos, of course, but if anyone has any suggestions of places not to be missed,  or good tours, I'd appreciate it.  We're staying at the 4 Queens downtown, since Auntie Cruiser gets lots of freebies there, so I will see the light show, too.

Gee, Cindy, I can't help. We've only been there once about 6 years ago and didn't care much for it.  But, I'm sure you'll notice a HUGE difference in 20 years!!!!!!

Just thought I'd ask.  I've been checking out websites, but a lot of the time other travelers have the best info, just like tours on the cruise sites.

Kathy may have some ideas when she gets back from MN this weekend. She usually goes out there every September.

I love Vegas!  We spent days just wandering through the different hotels.  You've got to see Venetian, Aladdin, Bellagio, Paris, even New York, New York.  It's so much fun to see them all and there are so many of them to see.  I don't even gamble much but I still love to go.

I would LOVE to see the Grand Canyon, but doubt we'll make it there this time-I don't think Laurie is into that sort of thing.  But I really want to see the Titanic artifact display at Tropicana, and King Tut's tomb at the Luxor!  Sounds cool!

We stay at the Four Queens when we go and although its not the fanciest hotel, its in a good downtown location.  Their upscale restaurant Hugo's Cellar (I assume its still there...its been a couple of years)...is really nice.  We like it and maybe you'll get comps for it! ;)

Definitely the fountain show at Bellagio.  The overhead Mardi Gras parade at Rio. A Gondola ride at Venetian.

Are you planning on any of the show?  Blue Man Group is a lot of fun.  Any of the Cirque de Soleil show are must see.

How long will you be there?

I am dying to see the new LOVE Cirque de Soliel and Barry Manilow is at the Hilton. The forum shops at Ceasar's are great. We usually stay downtown at the Golden Nugget and they were building the new aquarium and pool last year. I heard it is awesome. Breakfast at the Nugget's Carson Street Cafe is killer if you have the Golden Nugget french toast. YUMMY!!

If you walk down to where the Lady Luck used to be (it is closed now) you can catch the bus to the strip - it will save $$. I think it is $5/day for all the riding you want to do. If we want to rent a car we head to the 4 Queens and get one for the day. Hugo's Cellar is still there at the 4 Queens. All ladies get a red rose when they dine there - and it is upscale wonderful.

The ride up the Stratosphere and the Paris Eiffel Tower is fun.

Head to the $1 Wheel of Fortune at Binions. It is only a $2 spin to get the Wheel and I have had some really good luck on those machines. Same with the Wheel in Golden Gate. Not many of those machines left any more.

Then for a cheap but good dinner head downstairs at Binions - really good food and not much $$.

Don't miss Wynn Hotel and Casino - only if you just stop by - it is something to see. If you have a car you can head to South Coast (it is new) and they have killer dueling piano's - we had a blast there one night.

Gosh - there is so much to do - I think we have all helped you narrow down your choices - ROFL. :big grin:

One more thing - in the July/August issue of National Geographic Traveler there is a great article about Vegas. Check it out if you get a chance!! I just finished reading it and there were a lot of things I didn't know about this town. I gotta go there again - somehow this year!! :big grin:

Thanks for all the great ideas, Kathy! :big grin:  It's been so many years this will be like a brand new place for me!  I'm really getting excited about it now that I'm getting some ideas.  At first I didn't want to give up my usual February cruise, but we're going to go next Oct. with S&S4.  Maybe some of you should plan to come out there! :banana:We will be there for about 5 days, I think.  I'd like to make it a week, but my pal Auntie Cruiser doesn't have enough vacation days left, I think.  She's there right now with her mom, as we speak, but they only go to gamble.  I told her for me this is going to be a sightseeing vacation, too, since I don't get to spend my 50th on a cruise, like I had planned, so get her walking shoes on!

Keep the ideas coming, guys!  I'm enjoying this!  Don't know what all we'll have time for, but I want to see as much as I can, and I love the restaurant ideas, too!  I remember back in the 80's you could get a prime rib buffet at some places for $1.99.  I imagine those days are long gone-sigh. . .do the casinos still give free drinks and cigs when you're gambling?  Not that I care about the smokes, just was wondering. . .

Free drinks - yes, I never saw free smokes.....

You could get the $7.77 prime rib at Binions if they still have it. And they have some specials at Tony Romas downtown (I think it is in the Fremont). Keep your eyes open for those signs. The $1.99 days are gone. Not sure you can even get breakfast for that anymore.....

So when are you going in Feb? I am scheduled to be in NOLA - I think the 3rd week in Feb. I'll tell ya - if I could I would - love that town!!

Maybe we will-Laurie goes a lot and always stays there, so I hope we get a few perks!  I was in there years ago, but never stayed there. . .

They used to have boxes of cigarettes at the blackjack tables, and you could just take what you wanted, as long as you were gambling!

Where is Binions?  On the strip, or downtown?  We'll have to check it out. . .

We are tentatively thinking of going Feburary 27th-March 2nd.  Laurie found a decent air price on Midwest out of Milwaukee, and they are a nice airline.

I would really like to see NOLA, having never been there!  I'm thinking seriously of taking my daughter there in 2009, and going on a short cruise, as a graduation gift, since she has mentioned she would like that.  It would be more fun if people were there that knew their way around!;)  Will have to see how finances are when the time gets closer-maybe they will have a S&S special going on. . .

I agree with all of these. I also like the Volcano at Mirage and the new pirates show at TI. Just walking up and down the strip is entertaining. Mandalay Bay, Bellagio and Venetian are my favorite casinos. I have not been to Wynn as of yet. I understand it is very nice. Has to be since he built Bellagio.

We go to Vegas at least once a year and sometimes twice.

Definitely go to see the Volcano erupt at the Mirage, and the "Love" Cirque du Soleil

show is great if you like Beatles music.  The best first-timer's Cirque show is

Mystere at Treasure Island, and in my opinion, the best actual Cirque show

is KA at the MGM.  We have friends that are in the show and work behind the

scenes.  Fab-oo-lous!!

But the Parade in the Sky at the Rio is great too, as well as all the above-mentioned

things to do such as a gondola ride at the Venetian.

If you can, try to stay on the strip.  Those hotels are just so much more impressive

than the downtown ones. It's also a very expensive taxi ride away from downtown

to the strip, so rent a car if you can.  Usually it's cheaper for us to rent a car

with all the running around we do.

There's also great clothing outlets nearby downtown.

Paris is fun too.

But the best freebie thing is the water show at Bellagio.  Never get tired

of watching it.

Best buffet:  Paris Las Vegas..... Very fresh food with a french twist.

Favorite restaurant:  Samba Grille in the Mirage hotel.  It's radizio Brazilian barbeque

where you pay a fixed price and it's all you can eat, but they come to you, so

they bring you every kind of meat on a skewer imaginable, ranging from different

cuts of beef, chicken, fish, pork, et cet.  We go there everytime we're in town.

Welcome kruizer!! Glad you decided to post!! Don't be a stranger, just jump right in - anywhere!!

It can be crazy - considering how many people fly in and out of LAS each day. As a frequent traveler it is one of my favorite airports!!

When you land it is a piece of cake - luggage takes a little bit - but there are slot machines everywhere tp keep you occupied if you so desire!!:big grin:

Get to the airport at least 2 hours before take-off. Security lines are long but move pretty fast. Once through security there are more slot machines, smoking rooms, restaurants, and shopping everywhere. I have won some $$ waiting for my plane to take off - believe it or not. :big grin:
