We spent a day in Ocho Rios with Peat Taylor and his son Oneill.
Although I had spent a week here previously at the Couples resort I had not done much in the way of sightseeing.  I knew I wanted to see and climb the amazing Dunns River Falls.  I didn’t know much of what else to do.  So I started looking up what to do in Jamaica.  I came to cruise boards much like this one and started researching.  I found that you should use a tour guide.  I also found there are many incredible things to do for the day while visiting Ocho Rios.  You can climb the Falls, visit Fern Gulley, zip line through the trees, see Bob Marley’s house, river raft on the Martha Brae or tube the White River.  We decided we wanted to climb the falls and tube on the White River.  We were also traveling with friends for the first time and wanted to show them the resort we had stayed at previously.  So with all that in mind it was time to select a tour guide.  I researched and came across several.  I contacted Peat Taylor.  Peat was prompt and courteous in his responses.  He said he could accommodate all our requests with a “No Problem Mon”.  He would monitor our ship and be sure he was there when we arrived.  He provided a cooler full or Red Stripe in the van for our day and anything else we requested.  Our ship was a bit late in arriving in to port.  This was not a problem. Oneill was waiting for us with a sign.  He called Peat to bring the van around and while we were waiting we watched this staggeringly long line begin to form.  It was for the ship’s excursions to the Falls.  There had to be over 100 people in line with more coming.  As Peat pulled up in his van we climbed in and learned we were the only ones on his tour today.  So a van for 4 and we were off in under 3 minutes, while the masses were waiting to be shuttled over to the Falls.  We got to the Falls in no time and were some of the first ones there.  Oneill took us in and showed us some plant life along the way.  He hooked us up with a tour guide and since Peat already had our tickets we rented a locker and went down the stairs to get ready to climb.  Oneill also gave us some tips about the place and to exit the same way we went in to avoid the vendors.  We decided to go through the vendors and see what they had.  We didn’t buy anything but we at least looked.  We exited and found Peat and Oneill and were on our way to the river tubing.  Peat sang to us and told us a lot about his island.  He loves Jamaica and enjoys sharing with his guests.  We arrived at the White River tubing entrance and connected us with the guides.  Rambo was our guide for today and he was great.  Peat told us he would meet us downstream and we were off.  The falls and tubing are different reviews.  This is a tour guide review, but we had a great time tubing as well.  We finished our tubing experience and there was Peat.  He was waiting for us.  We cracked a Red Stripe and were on our way.  He called ahead and spoke to the Couples resort. We were allowed in and looked around a bit.  Peat waited and we were again on our way.  He asked what else we wanted to do.  We decided to just head back and hang out at the Island Village and Margaritaville. So what Peat did was show us where we had to go once leaving Island Village then dropped us off at the entrance.  He was great.  We paid his fare and tipped him as well.  I will use his services again when we return to OR in January 2008.  Any questions, please let me know.

You know, I have read so many different reports about Pete. I'm glad you didn't hve any troubles with him, Paul. But, from some reports over on the darkside, it sounds like some days he spreads himself too thin.
I have been to Jamaica so many times, we usually just stay on the ship now and enjoy the peace & quiet & not having to fight for a chair by the pool!

Pete and Oneil were our tour guides in Jamaica as well. I really enjoyed them. Knowledgeable, friendly and real gentlemen. I think if he's spread thin some days it's probably because he's had such a good reputation in the past.
