Yes, we are home-based.  We do not belong to a host agency (we did when we first started), as we don't like having the documents having the host's name on them.  Plus the host we had was in a different part of the country, so it was hard to get to know the local reps.  We do belong to NEST, a consortium for home-based agents.

While I agree that there's nothing wrong with his niche market, to say that you should only deal with an agency that belongs to all four is a load of crap. Yes, there are agencies that are shady (AB mentioned a couple), but just because they belong to all four doesn't mean they're not, and to me, that does sound like a desperation tactic that he's spewing.

exactly what i was getting to.  thanx Rich.  Niche markets are great, but to make a statement such as the one he did, and blast it on his site and some of his marketing campaigns is just CRAP>!

I was just looking into that Italian tour company a little the other day, and Stu's not listed as one of the officers (and he used to be).  I'm wondering if he's still with them.  I sure wish I had his level of energy (but not the stress level).

Yes I did, we probably have met. It was a great convention. The Celebrity party was great, wasn`t it?  Did you on to the Vegas Fam also after.

Did you do RCI 2 day too?

We had a great time at the convention, even though we barely had time to stop and breathe.  We did stay on for the Vegas fam, and actually a couple of nights after.  We had done the RCI through NACTA, so we didn't do the NEST one.

I was with my husband and I look like this:yay::roflmao:

Which one is your husband?:yay: OR :roflmao:?

I went to the website and it seems to me it's marketing scare tactic.  I understand he's trying to create something to further differentiate himself, but the way he did it smacked of a scare tactic and was not executed well.

Having a designation means you fulfilled the requirements of the organization handing it out.  Sometimes that means extra education, extra commitment and extra experience, other times it means you bought it.  People with designations can scam as well as those without.  That said,  I went to my TA on a referral, he has a designation, I have no idea what it means.  He's good at what he does, that's why I use him.

Yes, having a designation means that you fulfilled some requirement.  What he's spewing isn't even a designation.  It just means that you can sign a check.

Hi All -

In todays world it is easy to be scammed. What the original writer might have been warning people about are the 'card mills'. There are people who sell packages to others for $300-$500 a piece and then say they are a certified Travel Agent.

I started out in the Travel industry 19 years ago with United Airlines and then went to work for an American Express Travel Agency. There are courses and certifications that Travel Agents can get so they know the products they are selling to the public. The list provided are of Associations that provide agents forums to learn about all travel products and help them be customer service friendly.

Sometime people who have their identification from these card mills will say they booked your travel but many people have shown up to take their trip and there are NO reservations for them at all. I believe that is why we are all being advised to be aware.

Travel Agents who have worked hard to get their certifications want to make sure you the consumer know that they are reputable. Travel agents who have ARC, CLIA or IATAN cards must be associated with a verified agency. Many of us also must carry large insurance coverages to be able to do business in many states. Card Mills do not and can not get these types of verification or affiliation because their business don't really exist.

If you want to use a Travel Agent, be careful and use a certified Travel Agent who would be proud to let you know their qualifications.
