So after several years of traveling and going on cruises, I decided that I wanted to get into the travel industry myself and specialize in cruises and resorts. I figure that I've spent most of my time researching cruises for friends and then passing them onto my TA, I might as well do it myself.

I don't know if it's allowed, but I would love for people to try my agency out. I won't post my info on here until I know it's ok, so hopefully one of the admins will post to this to let me know.

I believe that I can offer great prices, unsurpassed service, and a desire to go above and beyond.

Thanks...

Paul

Welcome to the site, Paul, and thanks for asking!

While we don't allow advertising in any big way, we do allow one link to your homepage or Web site in your signature. We have a couple of business owners, including another TA, who have added their Web addresses for those who are interested. If you don't have either, we welcome your input as long as it isn't obvious advertising.

Again, welcome! :D

Just a question out of curiosity.....are Cruise Agents permitted to book their own personal travel?  Always wondered about that. Thanks in advance for your responses:)

Yes, they are. That's the reason I took the 12-week Travel Agent's course back in the mid 90's. I wanted to arrange my own travel plans.
TA's used to get really good deals on discounted travel, but not so much anymore. We used to get good commissions, but not as good anymore.
:(

True, very true.  Especially with cruise lines adding more and more non-commissionable fares & surcharges.  Not to mention the airlines.

So you wouldn't recommend this as a second career choice? My DD and I were talking about taking the course and trying to get started in a small way. I do so much research for myself - airlines, hotels, cruises, rental cars - that I thought maybe it might be a good idea. I could only do it part time now - but might give me the ability to retire from my current position sooner than until I'm dead!!

If you're thinking of getting into it for the money, forget it.  I think it's only going to get worse, as cruise lines will probably be the next ones to stop paying commissions.

If you want to get into it for the enjoyment and to learn about the world, and are serious about good customer service, that's another story, but it's not all fun and games.

I was thinking supplemental income along with doing something I love. I really enjoy helping people plan their trips! I am in the field of customer service now - and I know it is not always fun - but it can be very rewarding when you solve someone's problem. Not sure if it will happen - but it is on the list of options. ;)

Cruise is the most convenient way of travel as it brings the travellers the comforts that air travel or land travel are not able to. If we in the industry could make cruise more and more friendly and engaing which means more side trips for the voyagers to get a feel of most communities on the cruise route...so that the passengers won't feel "on board" all the time....

I have been in the travel Industry for 19 years and if you want to sell cruises to your friend and family there are ways to supplement your income by selling cruises. There is allot to know if you plan to do something like that. It is best to take courses and learn all you can to be able to anwser all the questions people will ask you about cruising, not just what you know from cruising yourself.

There are Travel Agencies, like the one I choose after 18 years in the industry to affiliate myself with and they are Cruises, Inc. They will help you set up your own in home business and give you all the support you'll need to sell cruises for additional income.

There are still some perks to being a Cruise Agent, so I wish you much success.
