That is sooo cool Rich.
Hmm....will have to check Brian and Allen's schedule and see if maybe we can come up for dinner one evening. If not this time, then next for sure.

I didn't even know about this thread until Stephanie just IMed me to tell me Rich and Jeri may be moving to the Raleigh-Durham area. Yay!!!!! They will probably have trouble telling the difference between New Hampshire and North Cackolackee, though, because they are such similar states.
I was fortunate enough to sail with Rich and Jeri on SS 3 and they will be an asset to any community they honor with their presence. They are great!
Oh, and I live in Charlotte. Up until last September I lived in Highland Creek, north of University City, but now I live in Dilworth on the edge of Uptown Charlotte. I've been in Charlotte for almost 19 years and love it. I live near Stephanie, who is a real sweetie! I see a lot of her and her family and they recently took me to my first-ever NASCAR race. I became an instant fan once I realized there was free food and beer in the Bojangles suite and once I shared the grandstand experience of when the cars come roaring around that first curve at the beginning of the race.

Allen, just driving around, you'd be surprised. They're more similar than you'd think. Of course, NC tends to be a couple degrees warmer, with an inch or two per year less snow.

Rich, the area around Asheville in the western part of the state near the Smokey Mountains would really remind you of NH. They havea lot of ski resorts and the weather is always 5 to 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the state. You could always take trips from Raleigh to Beech Mountain or Banner Elk or Boone for winter ski weekends.

Too cool Rich!! I used to live right outside of Clayton in Smithfield, and commuted to Raleigh and Cary, it wasn't too bad. I'm familiar with Youngsville and Clayton if you need any help!! Youngsville is great, and basically the suburbs of Raleigh. Have you looked at Wake Forest? With 540, it wouldn't be a bad commute to Durham. That's my neck of the woods, so let me know if you need anything at all! Would love to see you guys again next time you are in town!!

Thanks Chris! I had forgotten that you were in that area too. We're finding more available in Youngsville , and I'll be down next weekend. I've already got one appointment for Saturday afternoon to see a house there. Looks like 401-540 wouldn't be too bad a commute. I'm thinking with the gas prices, that extra 10 miles to go to Clayton might wind up being a bit much, but if we found the right place there, I wouldn't rule it out. I've been watching Wake Forest too, but haven't found what we're looking for in the listings.Last edited on Thu May 29th, 2008 08:23 pm by nhrich

My brother in law lives in Youngsville, it's a much easier commute than it used to be. We go out there often and it's really not bad. Youngsville is good because it is still far enough out, and not built up as much, that you can find great prices out there. Wake Forest was a great deal 5-8 years ago, but it's grown so much the prices have shot up. There are several small towns around Youngsville that are nice too... it's the country, but it's really starting to grow up. I love it out that way. Send me a PM if I can be of any assistance Rich!!!

I don't think we're going to be able to (at least Brian and I). Not sure when my car is going to go in shop and with the expense of it and gas prices.... we may have to wait until next time.
Found out yesterday I have to put about $1300 in my car. Would have preferred to use that for cruise money.

I am surprised not many people use 540. We use it all the time when we have to travel in that directions. It really cuts down our drive time.

| Yes, I figured from where the place is in Youngsville that 401-540 looked like the best route.

| Well now, after reading this thread, just one more good reason for retiring to NC. My DH is from Charlotte and all of his brothers and sisters are spread out around the region. We go back 2 or 3 times every year and we're just waiting till I sell my business to my partner in 2 years, and then we're moving back and retiring there. We're looking at the Weddington area where 2 of his brothers and their families live.
