We were just down in the Mooresville/Cary area checking out some different areas last weekend.  There's a chance we may be moving down that way.  So far, Youngsville, Clayton, & Hillsborough look like where we'd have to go to get at least 1/2 acre in our price range and in commuting distance to Durham.

Did you look at Burlington?  Chapel Hill?

I love Cary.  It is a very nice town and has grown a huge amount since me leaving the area 20 years ago.

Burlington seemed a little far out, but maybe it's about the same as Clayton.  We didn't look at Chapel Hill, but maybe we will on the next trip.

Cary's nice, but they're putting homes on top of each other, and it's pricy for that area.

We didn't get over as far as your area, just as far as Greensboro (maybe that's closer to you than I think, not knowing the area that well, but I know it's a stretch from Charlotte).  We were keeping the trip fairly under the radar, but now that coming down permanently is a possibility, I can let the cat out of the bag.

It was a whirlwind tour, but if we have more time next trip, you can be sure I'll put out the call.

Clayton would be a bit of a commute to Durham, Rich!!!!

That's what I'm thinking.  Actually they all would, but Clayton's the furthest, by about 10 miles from what I can see.  We were thinking maybe the northern part of Clayton, near Archer Lodge area, but even that looks like it might be a pain.  The commute would actually be to RTP.

Holly Springs looks good too, but again, most of the lots look small.

Cary is pricing and has been for a bit now.

If you are computing to Durham I would not think Burlington too far.  It is a straight shot and under 30 minutes.

Ok just saw you comment about RTP, then I would look into Chapel Hill.  Or even the area of RTP, or did you want to be a bit away from the hub bub?  Burlington would be a haul from RTP.  I am not real familar with the smaller towns in that area.  Much more familar with surround larger towns of Raliegh, Greensboro, Winston Salem, Concord and Charlottle.  Or more West in NC.

Thanks for the insight.  We'll check Chapel Hill (although I didn't see what we're looking for on realtor.com, but I'll look again).  I didn't see too much right around RTP with at least 1/2 acre, at least in our price range.

My nephew's wife knows someone who is selling in Youngsville.  Looks like it has exactly what we're looking for.  I may have to make another trip down in the next few weeks to check it out.

If things go the way they look, it'll be before July.  Any weeks before that that don't work?

I live in a county that has a law that all houses built after 1993 must be on at least an acre.  It was established due to no one wanting too many housing developments on top of one another.  Of course, it did make housing prices go up which helped too.

Actually, the weekend of June 21 is the only one we'll be around for. First 2 weekends, we'll be hauling a carload of crap down to Fla and then the last weekend, we'll be moving ourselves down to Fla!!!

Any chance ya'll could come down that weekend?

Geez, you don't make it easy.:P

I'm not ruling any weekends out yet, but depending on how things go, I may want it to be sooner (but possibly that weekend for a second trip if the results of the first visit go well).  Jeri REALLY REALLY REALLY wants me to go down & take a look at the place in Youngsville, and maybe she'd wait and go on the second trip if I like it enough.

Well, arrangements are made for the next trip...June 5-8 (but I'll be Jeri-less).  I'll be working at RTP Thursday & Friday, and doing some more exploring and seeing houses at night and over the weekend.  If I like any of the houses well enough, I'll probably come back with Jeri before we make an offer.

yer killin' me!  :nono:
We leave Sat the 7th for Fla and I know there's no way I can come up there on Friday. Depending on how much packing I've gotten done, I might could come up on Thursday...maybe for dinner? But that's pretty "iffy" and I probably won't be ready enough to go to Raleigh.

But, e-mail me your cell # and if I can come up, I'll give you a call.

If that weekend doesn't work out, maybe when ya'll come back together...........
