Nice work if you can get it... Where can I get a paying job to write a travel book about a country without actually having to step foot in that country?

Long story short, the author admits never having visited Columbia -- he obtained info from a girlfriend working at the Columbian embassy and plagiarized.

'Ya know, last time I was looking at guide books -- I think it was for Barcelona -- I remember thinking to myself, "Hey! Everybody says how good Lonely Planet is; I'll check them out." Browsing through the standards (Frommer's, Michelin, Lonely Planet, etc.) at the book store, I remember thinking that there was absolutely nothing in the Lonely Planet guide that wasn't contained in other books. Hmmmm...

I've checked them out too Becky, but never bought one. I don't really like the way they're done and, as you say, other leading publishers have as good or better info.
