I depends when the kids are out of school. Besides if we vacation again together so soon people will begin to talk!
Well you can stay at home with the kids...just send Denise...it can be just us girls!

Never been there, and being it's July, we probably WON'T be going to the parks*, but whats this all about. Some of the pix look cool. What else is there to do around that area?
Last time we were down in Orlando in the summer, we stayed at the Caribe Royale. Lots of water and pools, so we stayed cool. Could see the Epcot globe from our hotel, but never ventured over.

Also never been to Universal*, so we MAY try that. It looks close.
OMG!!! How in the world did I miss this thread?!! If there ever was a vacation I love MORE than cruising (shhhh), it's Disney!
If you haven't already discovered these Disney websites before, check them out. These are my favorites and may make you learn more about WDW than you ever wanted to even know. Lol.
http://www.disboards.com (If some of us live here at CTT - these people never sleep or wander too far from their computers, it seems!!! Between CTT and the Dis, it's a wonder that I get any work done! )
http://www.mousesavers.com (Good site to find discounts for hotels/car rentals/tickets)
http://www.allearsnet.com (Awesome site that has all the menus for all the restaurants at WDW - reservations are recommended and probably neccessary during busy times of the year)
Will be down in the World from 4/19-4/29/08. Staying 6 nights at the Boardwalk Villas and then 4 nights at the Animal Kingdom Villas.
Still tentatively planning a mid to late August 2008 trip. Will decide on the actual dates by the end of January and start checking for airfare.

My wife and I are flying down in 13 days. We'll be staying for two weeks at the Cypress Point Resort on Turtle Cay Circle in Lake Buena Vista.
I have no idea what we may do down there other than my wife wants to go to the space center. I just know it should be warmer for those two weeks than it should be here in Branson. We normally go this time of year to either a cruise or to Hawaii. We thought we would try this for a change of pace.
We look for more things historical or scenic so we'll see what we can find. Most of these resorts have a concierge.

Actually, that's kind of a cool pole. When I went to the Cowboys game, we tailgated with friends of my friend. Every new person has to autograph the pole. The Previous week, Jerry Richardson, owner of the Panthers, signed the pole. I thought it was pretty neat of him to do that.

The nation's oldest city, St. Augustine, is just 2 hours north of Orlando. It has an old Spanish fort, built in the 1600's, & a wonderfully restored historical part of downtown.
Worth a drive over for a day, or two.

It's a great little historical town. That's where we are retiring to when my DH cuts back to part-time work this summer. IF you have any questions about it, let me know.

We have never stayed in Downtown Disney but would not hesitate if we got a good deal. We have just always gotten really good deals at the Disney resorts...
With that said, it's a great location, lots of restaurants and stores ..DS LOVES the lego store. He has bought things there that they do not sell in Canada
Maybe your DD (depending on her age an/or if she is a Princess fan) would like the Bibbity Bobbity boutique. It's where the little girls go to get all made up like a princess...glitter hair, etc. It's in the World of Disney store Downtown.
If you are not going to go to the parks, there is a lot of "free" stuff to do. You can take Disney transportation to the various resorts to see what they're all about, watch the Electric Water Pageant from the shores of the Magic Kingdom resorts any night, watch the MK fireworks from these same shores. Apparently, they pipe in the music to speakers on the beach. The Boardwalk is a great area to walk around and you can catch the Epcot fireworks from the bridge crossing over between the Boardwalk and the Epcot entrance.
What ever you do, you will have a great trip! I agree with whomever said that other than cruisng, Disney is their favorite place to be.

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/entertainment/entertainmentDetail?id=ESPNClubEntertainmentPage
has anyone ever taken their kids in here? since it is "disney" is it a "bar" bar, or is it a restaurant bar?

I haven't been to this one, but I took my niece and nephew to the ESPN Zone in Washington, D.C., a number of years ago. It was kind of like a Dave 'n Busters, with a lot of video games to play, burgers and such to eat, and several different areas showing different sporting events. Sounds like this one is similar.
The web site says it's for "Big Kids" and "Teens," among others. Given that it's at WDW, it's probably more family-friendly than most sports bars. I guess how appropriate it is would depend on the age of your children?

thanks for the info on the dc one, becky. i did see that link "recommended for ..." but when i clicked on it, it wasn't talking about ESPN right away, but rather, all things recommended for big kids, etc. so i quickly closed out.
but your post caused me to revisit it (thank you), and i can see that the link has some good info. it does show recommended dining areas where the game will probably be shown, and basically lets me know, by virtue of being listed under "recommended for kids", that kids are allowed in. so, thank you.
dh has to see the giants. there is no alternative, lol. and, the rest of us want to see the game too, actually. we had a party last night (for the game). the kids (ours and all of our friends) were very into it.

All great info here!
Anyone know of a meal plan?
One of the down sides of a Disney land/sea cruise is that the land portion doesn't come with food.
But, somewhere I read that you can buy a land package for food if you are staying on a Disney property. Just forget where I read that.

yes, pete. we have done it twice. and it is well worth the money. well, it was well worth the $. since dd is now 10, she pays as an adult, and she does not eat that much food (you get a lot of food), so it gets pricey.
but before that it was awesome. i'll find the link. and yes, you must be at a disney resort and you must have a magic your way package. we now have tickets again (10 day no expiration park hoppers) that we use to jaunt down there a couple of times a year. and even though we stay on disney property, we are not eligible for disney dining. you must get the tickets in the package to qualify. lemme find it.

The Disney dining plan is available as an add-on to the land/sea package. It's $37.99 pp per night for ages 10+, and $9.99 pp per night for ages 3-9. You should check with whoever you booked the package with, as they should be able to add it on.
