| Yes, Becky according to the internet they have the largest fourth of July celebration outside of the USA in Geneva, hence the reason for us to spend the 4th in Geneva. So, hopefully we will enjoy some fireworks and patriotic music tomorrow night! Tonight we are going to eat some fondue!

YUM! Enjoy!!!
There's also a really good little creperie on the square where the old cathedral is, if you get the chance! (I stayed in the women's hostel on that square for 3 weeks in Jan. 2005. )

Yep, but my body is still in Germany. Went to bed at 10:30pm last night and woke at 3:30am... this after a 31 hour day the day before.
Geneva, it turns out that the American International Club despite not saying so on their website... cancelled the 4th due to lack of funds after holding the event every year since 1952. I found this out after riding the bus to the park. We walked around saw lots of people bringing coolers and wearing red white and blue, but no sign of any set up. People milling around lost... finally we walked back to the bus stop after wandering around the nice park for 45 minutes. Met some Americans that had, also, walked around the park and ridden our bus to the park. We start comparing notes. One guy who worked for a semi conductor company said that one of his co-workers had mentioned that they thought it had been cancelled, but wasn't sure. There were probably a couple of thousand people wandering around the park looking for it! Crapola...
We ended up doing dinner at a french restaurant on the sidewalk nearby.
My other big event was to ride the zeppelin at Friedrichshafen Germany, and they called me at our hotel in Lucerne Switzerland to tell me it was cancelled due to the weather... it rained off and on most of the time after we got to Zermatt. We had some good days the last week, but lots of wet ones especially the day in Zermatt and in Fussen.

What a bunch of bummers, JC! How was the fondue?
Did you see any street performers in Geneva? I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone when I saw a group of Native American performers there. They were really good. I think they were from Washington State.

No, we didn't make it down by the lake the park was sort out in the suburbs to the southeast. We ate at a Roman section of Geneva with tons of bars and sidewalk cafes. Now we ate with some very interesting people.. think Amsterdam...
The German speaking Swiss, speak English the French speaking Swiss do not. Fortunately, a lady saved me from ordering the veal rognons... veal liver.... yuck .
We had a sampling of fondue in Zermatt with a crazy Italian man and his German son that ended up with me biting my republican tongue... Long story will relate it later.

What I found was that if I first tried to speak French they would speak to me in English -- probably just so they wouldn't have to listen to how I butchered the language. Another woman in our group always started out by asking if they spoke English, to which the reply was ALWAYS no. At least in Geneva, the Swiss seem more like the French.

I can read quite a bit of romance languages to get a pretty good clue what is being generally talked about because of taking a lot of spanish (that I can't speak) and even more latin that I didn't have to speak, and a bit of Italian and French from travel. I have to agree with you that the french portion of Switzerland was by far the most difficult to travel in, and the least friendly. Not that they were rude like you might find in Paris, but not quite the same level of friendliness as the rest of Switzerland.
As far as pictures, they are on the laptop and I will try to load them to Smugmug this weekend.

If you and your countrymen's entire history was one surrender after another you wouldn't be very friendly either!

Great photos so far JC (I viewed the first 100). Did you order a new SLK while you were there? I thought you were suppose to be able to drive fast on the autobahn?!?!

| We did something called European Delivery on the white SLK, now I just have to wait for another 6 or 7 weeks. During break in I was told max 100mph, on the last day to Frankfurt I was doing about 115mph. At 115 you are passing 85% of the cars, but you have to watch the review mirrors like a hawk because it was not unusual to get passed by a car doing 50mph more. It is Krystal's 50th birthday present.

loved the cows grazing
the castle shot from over the river (daylight)
view of the town in the valley
Flower and Fruit shots were good.
Don't the Europeans know how to treat their dogs. It is so much more civilized.
The Berneise Mountain dogs were lovely, but they again I do love them all.
Looks like you had great weather.

Fantastic photos jc! I'll have to finish looking at them later as my computer refused to cooperate after a while. Beautiful shots of everything imaginable. You and Krystal are looking good! I do believe you've lost some weight since your last trip. That car is really something!
