Looked good to me Lee!

You know, whether you work with the disabled or they're members of your family, they give you a whole new perspective on life. It can be difficult at times, but their achievements, no matter how small, are the reward. The mother in question could use a great deal of guidance, but probably won't be aware of or take advantage of the resources available. How sad for the children.

Exactly Deb

How sad for her children

One of the only times that I was the one to call things off!  It did give me a little insight about what men must go through when they date women with children. . .:(

Several years ago my Dad dated a woman with a child like that. (Sis and I thought he was absolutely, certifiably NUTS for dating a woman with a school-age child, anyway.:confused:) The relationship abruptly ended when they were out to dinner one night, the kid started acting like that, and Dad blithely suggested they should duct-tape him to the leg of the table. :lmao1:

That was definitely how I felt, and I was at a point where I couldn't hardly be nice about it any more.  Looking back now, I believe that he was autistic-now that I have a mildly autistic grandson, I really think he (the ex-boyfriend's son) had all the classic signs.

The difference, my grandson got identified while young and got the help he needed, which made all the difference in the world.  He is very smart-just have to make sure he learns in a way that makes sense to him, and that he is prepared for changes.  They freak out when things are unfamiliar or if they are overstimulated.  One time at a wedding reception, the music was extremely loud, and my poor grandson sat curled in a corner with his hands clamped tightly over his ears.  It was unbearable to him.  He has a lot of sensory issues-can't tolerate loud noises, hates being dirty or sticky, wouldn't jump in leaves or touch finger paints, etc.  Also doesn't process pain properly-this can be a big problem!

He's very smart with things like numbers, time, etc.  Don't get me wrong-NOT like Rainmain!  In most ways he's a normal little boy.  He does need time to think through questions-if someone tries to repeat too quickly or change the subject-he has to go back to the beginning.  His condition is known as Ausberger's.

I do believe that mother was overwhelmed-it is a horribly frustrating condition.  Then to add another handicapped child and 2 others besides-that's a recipe for disaster, especially if she's trying to manage alone.  Could be she doesn't know how to seek the right help-if that's the case, that is a very sad situation.  If not, then she is definitely being negligent.

I understand!!!!! :big grin:    My DH and I both never got the "maternal/paternal" urges, so we decided to stick with feline kids!!!!!  I'm post-menopause now (thank goodness!) and we have never regretted our decision to be child-free.

:roflmao::roflmao:X 2!!!

I know of which you speak. My 5'9" oldest pats me on the head and tells me I'm short. I USED to be 5'5". Now I don't know how tall I am, but I know I'm wider in some places. I'm using Cindy's excuse. ;)
