I thought I would let you all know that the passport offices are now caught up and the processing time is back to 6-8 weeks. I applied for my kids passports 4 weeks ago they arrived in the mail today. They were standard processing too.

I took my 19 year old in today to get his passport, he was in  Hawaii when I took the other boys.  The lady processing his paperwork confirmed that the passport offices are now caught up and the wait is 5-6 weeks.  Regardless I am glad that everyone in my family has a passport  now.

I wonder how the new decisions/deadlines are going to affect things?  I'll be a lot of cruisers are going to read the stuff about leaving from and returning to a U.S. Port on the same cruise ship and they won't get a passport.  I hope they don't get stuck somewhere and have to try to fly back to the U.S.

That's one thing that probably never crosses these people's minds. No one expects to get stuck in a foreign port, but it happens. They need to quit messing around and get those passports.

Question for any of you TAs out there (or anyone else in the know):

I'm booked on a 1-night cruise out of NY on October 4th. Is it mandatory that I have a passport? I do have one, but I have not changed it to my married name. I will do the expedited service thing if I have to, but would rather not. I just realized this recently and I am feeling very nervous I won't get it in time!!!

Thanks in advance--

Never mind, I found my answer on NCL website. Sounds like my BC and driver's license will do the trick. I'll bring my marriage license along too, just in case. Here's what it said:

Caribbean, Bahamas, Bermuda, Alaska, Mexican Riviera, Or Canada & New England Cruises
You only need proof of citizenship and a government-issued photo I.D. or a valid driver's license with a photo. Proof of Citizenship examples include: an original or state certified copy of a U.S. or Canadian birth certificate, a valid or recently expired passport, certificate of naturalization, certificate of citizenship, or a report of your birth abroad.

That's great news! I am going to get it but won't expedite. Maybe I'll receive it before 10/4 then.

Just a drivers license will get you on a 1 night cruise. Keep in mind you are not leaving the country and no customs or immigration to clear.

No different then a NCLA cruise in HI or a domestic airline flight. You need offical ID but no proof of citizenship.

I read somewhere that the waiting time is back to normal now and a couple people had gotten them back in 2-3 weeks

Some in as little as 10 days. Brian still needs to get his. It's at the top of our list of things to get done before the cruise.

I applied for my kids (new applications) and had them back in hand within 2 weeks. I sent mine in for a name change and had it back in 9 days.
