Unfortunately the same amount of time as a new one.  DH renewed his in January and even then it took 12-13 weeks and they were still promising 6-8!

I think they're now saying 16 weeks?  But I wouldn't hold my breath.  Anyone getting a passport now w/ any kind of travel plans I would highly recommend paying for expedited service!

I told a coworker what to do and how and she got her passport in 2 weeks. Of course, she was booked to Cancun in 3.5 weeks, so maybe that helped.

HOLY COW!!!!!!!  That's all summer long! :holymoly:

We sent in my husband's passport for a renewal last Thursday to an expeditor for an extra $50 charge. Our Med cruise in Oct is too expensive to chance not getting it back on time.
They guarantee it will be back within 20 days.

My bosses passport expired and I paid the extra for the expedited passport.  I do think we had it within 3 weeks.  You can also check the status online for the expedited passport requests.

Yeah, he checked a few days ago and it says it's "in processing".  I am really keeping my fingers crossed!!!

I just stopped by my local PO to get an application for a first time passport, and info.  He said it's  been averaging about 3 months.  Cost is $97.  I had my pics done at Walgreens.  I bring that in, along with 2 forms of ID, original BC or one with raised seal, and completed passport form.

I actually love that idea. Now, if only they would require a VALID SS# for a driver's license...

jc,
Yes, he got it in 2 weeks!  I need to post a review for the expeditor that he used. It was no problem and fairly inexpensive ($59).  It's nice to know that service is available!

FYI- paid the extra fee to renew my son's passport last month (he's 16 now and the old one didnt look anything like him -lol) .We paid the expidited fee expecting 4-6 weeks and it came in 2 weeks!!!!

So, if anyone is in a rush, its possible to get quickly, if not costly.

I read a report in the paper last weekend saying the passport processing center in NH was caught up, and was working on applications submitted less than two weeks prior.

Here in Kansas they are requiring you to provide your SS number in order to obtain a hunting liscense. The reason is to locate folks who are behind on child support.
