I can't say I agree with all of these.
But I would like to add a few.
The Bible and the Esoteric Bible(the book that has everything the Council edited out)
The Color Purple.
The Diary of Anne Frank.
Valley of the Dolls.
The Godfather.

Those are good choices too!
I read Valley of the Dolls and The Diary of Anne Frank years ago. The Color Purple I haven't read, but loved the movie. I have the Bible here at home but didn't even know about the Esoteric Bible. I also have the Mormon's "bible" here. I got it free when we visited out there on one of our trips.

The Esoteric Bible has all of the gospels the church didn't think were suitable. But most of Sunday school lessons come from these so go figure.
I loved the Color Purple. It was the triumph of a good woman.
