My books almost all come from the library. I can't buy them, or I'd have to have a house 3 times the size of my current one to store them!

Our library has a couple of really nice features. First is the ability to put books on hold and then you can pick them up from the closest location, even if it's one they normally don't have available. The second is fairly new, but they're listing other suggested books when you select a book -- if that makes sense. Each book is being assigned tags (kind of like bloggers use), and then the computer select a list of books that have similar tags. I've found a LOT of new authors that way!

That's an excellent idea! I'm always looking for new authors, especially when the ones I already like don't have something new on the shelves.

Our local library is on a network( can order on line) where I can order a book from any library in Central Ma. and it will be deilvered to our library. The only downside(if you call it that) is some times I get several at a time:shoot me: Also they keep track of the books I've read.

I also get the Doubleday Book Flyer in the mail, another easy way to go.

:roflmao:More than one book at a time?  I almost always have between 8 and 10 checked out at any given time.  Most of the time, I can get them all read within the 3 week period that they're checked out for -- but if not, they can be renewed.  One's by my bed, one's in the bathroom, another's in the car to read at lunch.  If I get on a scrapbooking kick, which I am right now, then I slack off a bit.

As a young child --- probably 8, my Dad took me to the city library which was located right across the street from his work.  I checked out my limit of 10 books (all chapter books, not picture books) and by the next evening I complained that I was bored.  My Mom told me to go read -- I informed her I was done with everything I had checked out.  At that point in time, she started rationing them to me, one a day...

The inter-library sharing, or delivery between branches if its a larger library system, is great!

Mine can't either, but he's not a reader, he's a TV watcher.  I used to ask him what the difference was between  reading multiple books at a time and keeping track of the plot lines of several TV shows at once.... :shoot me:

I'm done... a very sweet gentle novel, with historical info. It dragged big time, but in the end was a nice read.

Thanks Sheila. I may put it on my list for a later date. I'm not that knowledgeable about Casanova, so I might have to dig into it.

I actually goggled him half way thru the book, and his life history was quite fascinating. The book take licence of changing a few facts, but it does follow particular eras of his life. I won't say more as the ending is where it all happens.

Just finished "Something Rotten" from Jasper Fforde's "Thursday Next" series last night. There's only one book left in the series, and I'm already starting to dislike being done! :( Fun books.

Blasphemy - Douglas Preston

Talk about a book that dragged...  Too much "techno talk" a good story line - but holy crap it took me forever - I'm now on to a older Clive Cussler book "White Death" that I picked up at the library - So far it's not too bad.  Have a few of the Preston/Childs books (Reliquary and Ice Limit) on order from the library and they should be in tomorrow - a good thing with the rain predicted for the weekend.  :big grin:

If you get to the "Trilogy", make sure you read them in order.

Thanks, I've read the "Trilogy" and still craving more Pendergast LOL

Just catching up on the ones I couldn't find at the book store and the used book store.  Great mysteries - My friend started me on them and it took a bit to find Reliquary - but the library came through for me.

Geneslamp, you're in good company here. There are a lot of us who are Pendergast fans! I finally finished Tyrranosaur Canyon. Pretty good! I'm not on to Black Order by James Rollins. I think I've read most of his books. They never disappoint!

Has anyone read any books by Lisa Scottoline?  I picked one up at the library yesterday and it looks like it's in a series with the main character. I was wondering if I needed to read them in order?

Sorry to say no, I haven't - but let us know once you get into the book.

I did catch a new TV program the other evening called Tru Blood - I know I've read the book but I'm not sure what the title was.  It was about this bar waitress in Mississippi (?) who meets up with a vampire - vampires now co-exist with humans in this tale.  Seem familiar to anyone?
