Is that good or bad? I haven't read it yet. I've been so busy that I'm hardly finding time to read at all. Sacrilege!

I've gone back to the Calder series by Janet Dailey. She has about 3 out that I haven't yet read. I'm reading Lone Calder Star now and it's good! I really had forgotten how much I enjoy this series of books!

Wow...you ladies read some serious stuff!  One day, when I no longer have 3 kids talking to me at the same time, I hope to upgrade my reading material but for now I have to stick to what I call fluff literature.  Very easy reading for my very short attention span....not that I don't enjoy them, I do.

Finished Lean Mean Thirteen by Janet E.... and I'm half way thru Mary Higgins Clark "I've Heard That Song Before".  It's not bad but I'm starting to realize that I just don't enjoy her books as much as I used to.  I think I'm just reading them out of loyalty.  I started reading her books in my late teens.

My DD 16 is reading a series by Stephanie Meyers that are REALLY popular with that age group and she is encouraging me to read the first one.  I think I may give it a try next.  Anything to keep the dialogue open.....:P

Not yet but I don't usually read anything until it comes out in paperback.  I'm just not responsible enough to take care of hardcover books.:P

Please....elaborate on your last comment.  Inquiring minds (and big James Patterson fans) want to know what you mean.

I think "I've Heard That Song Before" is the last book of hers I read out of the library - I picked one up a week or so ago and read it.  They are a pretty easy/fun read for me - not too in depth, but a nice escape.

Right now I'm reading book 2 (I actually read book 3, than 1, than 2 - go figure) of a series by Shana Abe' - a little fantasy, a little sex, a little adventure.  (The Smoke Thief, The Dream Thief, and I forget the third one.)

I've been mostly lazying the summer away, picking easy reads - nothing too in depth.

This is from their website:

Dear Pendergast Fan:
We want all of our readers to know that rumors of Agent Pendergast's demise are greatly exaggerated! We have almost completed our account of his next adventure--which will be titled CEMETERY DANCE (previously known as Revenant)--and we're very excited about how it is shaping up. It's due to be published early next summer. Not only that, but we have some truly fearsome ideas for its follow-up. So many thanks for your patience...and watch this space for more news soon!

Aw Crap - and I was heading to the bookstore today - guess I'll have to keep in suspence until next summer.

JMHO

Two of my favorite authors have begun putting out less than stellar works in the last few years, Dean Kootz and Clive Cussler. Cussler's writings as co-author with his son just don't have the oomph that his earlier works did IMHO.

As for Koontz, I read his Odd Thomas series. Good enough, but not great. I still have one unread on my shelf. Maybe that one will measure up.

I totally agree - Clive Cusslers books with his co-author son are really not up to par although the Navigator was a bit better than the previous one. (can't remember the last title - but it was pretty weak)

Koontz I haven't read in years - got a bit bored with his musings as well.

An easy read was Rhett Butler's Family - Gone with the Wind was one of my all time favorite movies and still is :big grin:  The book, although not really well written was a good "my mind is too busy to concentrate" book.

I always liked Gone With the Wind too. I have the book, the movie and the sequel, Scarlett. I liked her a whole lot better in the sequel! ;) I didn't know about Rhett Butler's Family. Might have to check that out next time I hit the bookstore.

Right now, finding time to read for longer than 30 minutes is hard. I'm about 3/4 of the way through The Kite Runner. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but I think it's well written and I'm enjoying it a lot.

I'm also a huge GWTW fan.  I read the original book when I was about 13 years old and again at around 16...saw the movie hundreds of times.  When the sequel came out I re-read the original and then the sequel.  I actually MISSED Scarlett (like she was part of my life!) when it was over.  I didn't know about Rhett Butler"s family.  I'll have to look for that one.

I have recently finished "Step on a Crack" by James Patterson and somebody else.  I LOVED IT!  After my disappointment in "The 5th Horseman" I was starting to doubt him but I am back to being a fan.

Now I'm onto some books by Emily Giffin.  Just finished "Something Borrowed" and I'm now reading "Something Blue".  Yes, it is fluff but I'm rally enjoying these  books.  The style of writing reminds me of the Shopaholic series, even though the author is American, not British.

I know exactly what you mean! I don't know how many times I've seen the movie and read the book. And although Scarlett was pretty selfish and immature in the original GWTW, I felt I knew her so well after reading the book so many times.

I keep some fluff around here too. Sometimes, you're just not in the mood for something too intense. Trash romance novels always work for me. ;)

Hopefully you all can find it.  I did buy the hard cover edition - and I've loaned it out to my sister so can't tell you who the author is - and I'm sure it will be in paperback by the time she returns it.  She still has my copy of Scarlett - and God knows that's been out for years.  ;)

Sorry I haven't replied to this, but to answer your question, I found it an easy read and guessed the ending way too soon. Not one of his best, but still good.

Is this set in the past or is it about current times?

I'm reading a bit of fluff in between the more serious dramas and nail biters that I usually like. Daughter of Egypt by Constance OBanyon. I think I missed a couple of books that come before this one, so I'll have to check them out.

I stocked up on books again today. I like to have a few in reserve for my various moods. ;)

I liked The Golden Compass so much, I picked up The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. (Philip Pullman) Here's what else I have now for my stash.

The Ice Limit - Douglas Preston &  Lincoln Child

The Bone Garden - Tess Gerritsen

Black Order - James Rollins

Tyrannosaur Canyon - Douglas Preston

Lord of the Nile - Constance O'Banyon

The Sanctuary - Raymond Khoury

I also picked up a Mother Goose nursery rhyme book for the DGD and donated a new book to underprivileged children.

Sounds like some good reading coming up.  I haven't read the Ice Limit - have to scope that one out.  The Bone Garden was excellent  - Tyrannosaur Canyon - a little long but still a good read.  I'll have to get to the book store to find the Ice Limit.

No need asking what you're doing this weekend.  LOL

I can read - I just can't remember - LOL

The book was titled "Rhett Butlers PEOPLE" - my long term memory makes up for the short term errors.

Read "Skinny Dip" by Carl Hiaasen while on the cruise. A quick read, amusing, and talk about a cast of characters! :P
