What is everyone reading now? I'm reading The Templar Legacy by Steve Berry. Very good! I have a couple of his others in my stack of "to be read".

I'm reading a "junk" book --- The Face of Death by Cody McFadyen.  I'm almost half way through and, in spite of being junk, it's terrifying.

I'll start Brave New World next.

Just finished Zoli.  Good story line, but I'm not sure I'd recommend the book.  Very slow moving.

Slow moving books are hard for me to finish. If they can grab me in the first chapter and keep me interested after that, I usually finish them quickly.

I finished Berry's books a little while ago - reread the two with Cotton, so I could read his latest.  I skipped the other two (three?) not in the series - I've read them before, and didn't want to take the time right now - I have about 20 books out of the library.

I did take a break with a romance - Julie Garwood, I think, though it could have been Johanna Lindsay - shows you how my mind is going.  It was her (whichever her) newest - Shadow Dance.  I thought it was going to be connected to her other shadow one, but it was only remotely connected, so I was a little disappointed.

I'm now onto the Preston/Child series - I just finished Relic and Reliquary, and was actually coming online to find the list of books (order to read) from this thread.  Of course, I've been online for an hour, and have yet to go and find it!

When I'm done with the Preston/Child series, I have a couple of Greg Loomis books to read, plus The Last Templar by Raymound Khoury.  Other than that, I have a couple of Brian Sanderson books to read (I want to get an idea of his writing style before he attempts to write Jordan's last book - Robert Jordan died this year, before writing book 13 - the last book - in his Eye of the World series).  Then, I might be able to actually get to the only book I got for Christmas - a Sharon Shinn book - a "Twelve Houses" book.  I've enjoyed Shinn's series - I didn't really like here Jane Eyre stand-alone book, but her angel series, and than this series, are both really good.

I know Steve Berry --- his sister attends the same church we do.  I've tried reading his books, but they don't grab me.

I found it---it was from Aug 29!

BEcky,
Yes, "Relic" was the first Pendergast novel.  You really don't need to read the "regular" books in order, although they do make more sense if you do. They introduce certain characters and will bring them back in later novels.

Relic
Reliquary (my favorite)
Cabinet of the Curiosities (my 2nd favorite)
Still Life with Crows

then.......we have the Trilogy, which is really best to read in order
Brimstone
Dance of Death
Book of the Dead

Yes....I just went to their website and the above order is correct. The below is from their website:

Q.  I want to read all your books in which Pendergast appears. What order should I read them in?
A.  Ideally, Relic, Reliquary, Cabinet of Curiosities, Still Life With Crows, Brimstone, Dance of Death,The Book of the Dea and The Wheel of Darkness.

Q.  What is the 'Diogenes Trilogy'?
A. Three novels that, together, form the story of Agent Pendergast's epic confrontation with his brother, Diogenes. These books, in order, are: Brimstone, Dance of Death and The Book of the Dead.

I still haven't read Still Life With Crows because I was under the impression that it was the least enjoyable of all thier books. Denise, you've read them all. What did you think of this one? I've read the rest.

I just finished The Face of Death by Cody McFadyen and highly recommend it if you like the thriller-type books.

I can't decide what to read next. Another Steve Berry or a trashy romance novel.

Oh, you got to go for the trashy novel.  You need a break from all the heavy reading, after all!

This is a great series that I have read..........about a National Fish & Wildlife Agent, Rachel Porter. They are really funny!

http://www.tartcity.com/JSpeart.html

http://www.jessicaspeart.com/

In Jessica Speart's Rachel Porter series, Rachel, a former New Yorker, is a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Special Agent. She and her in-your-face attitude take on the system and good "ole" boys in every part of the country to halt wildlife abuse and animal smuggling. Being smart, determined, and courageous, Rachel isn't afraid to take on anyone or anything, whether it's her boss, the bad guys, or romance, where sexy New Orleans Detective Jake Santou adds a steamy Cajun flavor to her life.
And, even though the always interesting plots are compelling, the series' humor, similar to Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, makes the books outstanding.  Each book's different geographic location is flavored with colorful, original regional characters, providing exceptional entertainment!

Reading about Rachel's exploits in this zany series is a positive, empowering experience.

Catnip -- your last post reminded me about the series by Nevada Barr.  They wouldn't have the "steamy sex" aspect, but each one of them features Anna Pigeon.  She's a national park ranger and most of the books are set in a different national park.  I'd classify them as murder mysteries.

Have you read any of those?

No, I have not, but they sound like something I'd like!!!!!!  I've seen the authors name, but have not read any.  Have you read them?   They do sound similar to the Rachel Porter series.  I have read all the Rachel Porter books and they are funny!  She gets herself into some scrapes and tight spots!!!!!!!!

Ill have to see if I can pick up a few from the library.  Do you have to read that series in order?

I've read most of them.  I don't know that you need to read them in order, but I'd definitely try and at least start with the first one.  The first one I happened to pick up was Firestorm, which is 4th in the series, but they probably make a little more sense if you start with the first one since some of the characters appear in more than one book.  Some of them are a little "darker" than I really like, but for the most part I've enjoyed them.

Here's a link to her website which lists the books in order:  http://www.nevadabarr.com/

I'll have to look for some of the Rachel Porter ones.  I hadn't heard of that author before.

Have you read any Sue Henry or Dana Stabenow?  Both of their series are primarily set in Alaska.  My Aunt introduced me to those authors when we were getting readily to cruise to Alaska the first time!

I always like to try to read some books other than travel guides which are related to places I'm going to visit and found Sue Henry just before we went to Alaska on our first cruise.  I've read a couple of her books and really enjoyed them.

GRR...  FLIPPING INTERNET....

Anyway, as I was TRYING to say:

You guys are really evil on this thread!!  I'm halfway through the 20 books I checked out due to recommendations on this thread - I'm halfway through Pendergast (though I had actually read many of them in no sane order before), and still have a couple of others, including Greg Loomis' books (I don't think I got them from this thread, but I think I remember thoroughly liking the one I read before, and recommend others try them) to read.  I haven't even gotten to the Sharon Shinn book I got for Christmas.

And now you're giving me 4 more authors to read???!!!????

:flamin: :moon: :spank: :kickbutt:

------

Seriously though - thanks for all the good suggestions - I'll get to them eventually!!

The recommendations on the board have led me to some new authors and interesting reading. I start with one book by those authors. If I like them, back I go for more!

Anybody read any of Tim Dorsey's works ?   I just finished Atomic Lobster .... interesting to say the least,  easy read with quite a few laughs, especially some of the mental images of events on a cruise ship! :big grin:   I should add a warning that this book may contain obscene language and project impure thoughts ;)
