I found them by accident. I was just perusing the books at the library and there it was. Sometimes I look at the books they have on special display to see if there is a new series or something that catches my eye and that's how I found this one. I'm reading the second one now, have the third one checked out too and the fourth one is on hold for me at the library when I get there to get it.

Thanks for the tip! I have not heard of her before, but I do like trashy romance novels!
What time frame do they take place in?
I used to love "time travel" romance novels, but haven't seen any around lately.
Oooooooo, I love trashy romance and time travel novels.

Oh my - I was lost in the wrong "book" thread, but thanks to Catnip, I found you guys. What an active thread. Anyway, here's what I posted over there:
I have this tradition of stopping in at the airport gift shop to choose a novel specifically for the cruise. I read a bit of it on the plane but am usually too excited to concentrate on it. I then bring it out on the ship while lounging on the promenade deck but am so distracted by the beautiful sea. I'm one of those cruisers who cruise just because I love the sea.
Ironically, I'm now an author who has published her first novel set on a cruise ship. It was a blast writing while we lived in Florida and I could just feel the cruise atmosphere all around me. I can't wait to get back on a cruise ship now that we're back living in the Pacific Northwest. I'll have to bring a stack of my books with me.

| I've finally finished reading "The Eight" and have a trashy romance novel packed for the flight and cruise. I rarely read a whole book during a cruise, but I can't go anywhere without one.

Thanks for asking catnip! Actually, I just got a wonderful review of it and the reviewer was so good at capturing the flavor of the story. If you click on the link in my sig line it'll take you to my book blog with a link to the review.
Anyway, the short version is it's about 3 women on a Caribbean cruise, with at least 3 men, and a secret past that some of them share. A cruise ship was a great setting to bring characters together and to incorporate some of the idiosyncracies of cruising into the story. Like the fact that people will often reveal their secrets when they're thrown together in confined quarters, such as a plane, train, or cruise ship - and then avoid you later.
It was a lot of fun to write because I got to cruise vicariously through the characters. I'm also having fun working on a book trailer for it and hope to get it out there next week.

Inquiring minds want to know... Did you take a cruise to "research" (according to the U.S. Tax Code) for your book??? I'm considering taking up authoring just for the travel benefits! (Read James Patterson some time -- that man knows the meaning of the phrase, "tax write-off"!!! As does Dan Brown.)

Speaking of James Patterson... For you Alex Cross fans! Release date: 11/13/07

Book Description
Just when Alex thought his life was calming down into a routine of patients and therapy sessions, he finds himself back in the game--this time to catch a criminal mastermind like no other. A spate of elaborate murders in Washington D.C. have the whole East Coast on edge. They are like nothing Alex Cross and his new girlfriend, Detective Brianna Stone, have ever seen. With each murder, the case becomes increasingly complex. There's only one thing Alex knows: the killer adores an audience. As victims are made into gruesome spectacles citywide, inducing a media hysteria, it becomes clear to Alex that the man he's after is a genius of terror--and he's after fame. The killer has the whole city by its strings--and he'll stop at nothing to become the most terrifying star that Washington D.C. has ever seen.

(Read James Patterson some time -- that man knows the meaning of the phrase, "tax write-off"!!! As does Dan Brown.) Hi Becky - Actually, no. I've been cruising since 1982 and just love being at sea. This book was the third novel I wrote and the book that got me a literary agent. Perseverance is the name of the game and when we didn't sell to the big publishers, I knew this was the one to publish anyway. I blog about my whole writing journey on my web site.
The novel I'm writing now is set in Las Vegas - another place I've frequented since childhood.
Maybe some day when I'm "big, rich, and famous" I'll find a way to get those tax write-offs.

Inquiring minds want to know...
Finally finished Black Sunday today... two months later! So much for it being a page-turner. This was apparently a reprint of an early Patterson novel. You can tell that the main character Arch Carroll is the basis for the later Alex Cross. Interesting to see how the character evolved in the author's mind.

Somebody mentioned time travel romance novels. I read a good one by Nora Roberts several years ago but I don't remember the name of it. But I think she's written several. I should look into them - I love time travel themes. Anybody watch the new show "The Journeyman" about a time traveler in San Francisco? It's so cool.
BTW, I finished the book trailer for my novel Real Women Wear Red. You can watch it by going to my web site, blog, or going directly to YouTube. Just search on "Real Women Wear Red." Maybe it'll inspire you to book your next cruise (or buy my book?).

Deb,
Have you read any yet? Which ones are you taking on your cruise?
Do you still want me to send you the newest one, "Wheel of Darkness"?
It is a good book, but not one of their better ones, imho. You could read it without having read any of their other ones, as it is not a sequel to the "Trilogy". But I would recommend reading the Trilogy first before reading it, as some things will make more sense.
This is from the authors website:
Q. I want to read all your books in which Pendergast appears. What order should I read them in?
A. Ideally, Relic, Reliquary, Cabinet of Curiosities, Still Life With Crows, Brimstone, Dance of Death,The Book of the Dead andThe Wheel of Darkness.
Q. What is the 'Diogenes Trilogy'?
A. Three novels that, together, form the story of Agent Pendergast's epic confrontation with his brother, Diogenes. These books, in order, are: Brimstone, Dance of Death and The Book of the Dead

I won't say I thought it was VERY good, but it was good enough. I'm one of those people that if it bores me, it won't get finished. I enjoyed the mix of history and adventure along with all the twists and turns in the plot.

How about Jean Auel and the Earth Children series? I bought her first book, "Clan of the Cave Bear", back in the 70's for a dollar.
I enjoy reading Michener, specially before cruises, "Carribean", "Alaska", "Hawaii", etc.
My all time favorite read is Allen Drury and his "Advise and Consent" series, political scene that fortold today's political climate.
I'm new here but am trying to catch up by going through all the posts. I think that, instead of trying to remember where all the ones I want to comment on are located, I'll just post as I see them. Hopefully, you'll all put up with me.
Dwrist, we must be close to the same age, because I love the Allen Drury series, the Earth Children series and Michener. I think Centennial was my favorite.
Somewhere, I saw a post on The Glass Castle. I didn't find it depressing. Yes, they were horribly poor, but they didn't know or resent it. Great book, imho.
I also love Lee Childs, Harlan Coben, James Patterson, P.J. Tracey, Kate White, Tess Gerritson, Greg Iles, Sandra Brown, Douglas Preston, John Sandford, Jonathan Kellerman, Fay Kellerman, Kathy Reichs, Tammi Hoag, and on and on. Some of the best books I've read in the last year or so are The Kite Runner, Life of Pi, Memoirs of a Geisha, Year of Wonders, The Road, Ishmael, probably more that my small brain can't remember.
Off to read more posts.

Release date: 8/28/07
Book Description
Pendergast has taken Constance on a whirlwind Grand Tour, hoping to give her closure and a sense of the world that she's missed. They head to Tibet, where Pendergast intensively trained in martial arts and spiritual studies. At a remote monastery, they learn that a rare and dangerous artifact the monks have been guarding for generations has been mysteriously stolen. Pendergast agrees to take up the search. The trail leads him and Constance to the maiden voyage of the Queen Victoria, the world's largest and most luxurious passenger liner--and to an Atlantic crossing fraught with terror.
Okay, I'm resurrecting my old post because...
I'll be reading this on my Carnival Victory cruise on 9/3!
   :cloudnine: :breakdancer::bunny:
Remember how we talked about doing an Agent Pendergast tribute cruise in conjuction with this book's release, but we were all already booked up? Well, I booked myself up even more, and last night reserved this cruise. Can't wait to get aboard, and can't wait to crack the cover on the latest Pendergast novel!!!
Hi, Becky. John and I will be with you on the Gem in December. You and I can have a mini-Fans of Pendergast reunion. Beth

I just ordered the audio of the Earth Children and will upload "Clan of the Cave Bear" unto my mp3 plalyer to listen on the way over to Barcelona.
