Thanks, Mike! He's on the list, and will probably pin on ~Oct. 1st. He got a really low number on the list (#39), so I'm extra proud of him. I'm already working on how to spend his raise. :big grin:

Oh, and BTW... the deluxe renewal of vows package on Princess includes a tour of the bridge with the Captain. We thought that would be a cool thing to do. ;)

Congrats to hubby on the promotion!  My DD just made Major-I've offered to spend her raise for her!:big grin:  But I suspect she'll need it living in DC. . .:P

And congrats to your DD, Cindy! :proud:

We LOVED living in the DC area. We were a bit outside the beltway so had the best of suburban living with both city AND country within easy reach. I hope she has the time to take full advantage of all the area has to offer!

DH and I have been married for 26 years.  We were 19 and 21 when we got married.  Were married 8 years before our first child was born.  We have a really good life, are generally happy people and tend to agree fundamentally on most things.  There have been ups and downs over the years but nothing monumental so far that would permanently divide us and we've been able to work through everything that's popped up.

Here's the thing.  I have NO desire to renew my vows.  Neither does he.  Like none.  We've talked about it when we hear of people doing it and both of us just kind of go . We just don't get it.

Tell me what it is that makes people want to do this.  I honestly don't mean this in a derogatory manner.  We just go about life, doing what we do, enjoying the kids, not enjoying the kids:shock:, enjoying our friends, travelling, paying bills, golfing etc.  We get along really well (most days) and we laugh a lot.   What's wrong with us that we don't get this?

Pastor Becky, consider this your first official CTT counselling session.:big grin:

From what I can tell, there's nothing wrong with you! You sound like you have a very happy life and I hope it lasts as long as you do!

BeckyThane wrote: ML, it would be a very long story as to why this is important to us at this particular time. I agree with everything you've said, and thank God your life is such that you don't feel the need to renew your vows!

Long story short, I think it marks for us a major coming together of many threads in our lives, issues we've been fighting through (not with each other but with life in general) for 16 years. It seems like recently life has finally become "right" for us after some severe injustices 16 years ago. John Mark is now being promoted to lieutenant colonel, and I'm getting ordained. It's a major turning point for both of us individually and together. It just somehow seems appropriate to mark the occasion of us embarking on new lives separately and together, and a good time to make a new start and re-commit.

Does that make sense?

It does make sense! In a way, it's a celebration of your marriage all over again and a way to recommit to each other. Your lives are heading in a good direction. Might as well go for the vow renewals to add to all the other good things.

Congrats to John Mark and Cindy's Jamee on their promotions!

:banana::roflmao: great early morning laugh.. where has the Jedi been lately??
Here's my 2c on the renewal thing.
I did want to do it.
I now don't want to do it.
I agree with Becky and MaryLyne. I think an official reminder of why you really are still together is good. But personally I don't think I need to do that any longer. I can't go back 36 years ago, I can only go forward, and going forward at this age means something completely different than it did then. I'm also different too.
I did that love honor and obey thing, til death do us part. Now we're working on staying alive long enough to enjoy what we missed when young.
But what I am for..... is people making individual choices and enjoying every minute of something special to them.... and of course lots of pics, a few new outfits, some new bling and a dash of romance!! Sprinkled with liberal doses of wine... and a good smoke ...... ahhh.... to have a good smoke. (2yrs2months :ooooh: )

I was gonna say that actually, that's what we did when we renewed our vows in '97, but come to think of it I don't think we saved a penny... We were in Vegas with a group of friends and wanted to renew our vows, but I couldn't settle on where to do it. We ended up taking everyone to lunch at the Mirage. We ate, we drank, we made merry, and we were the last ones in the restaurant when we spoke heart's words to each other. The restaurant staff gathered around, and there wasn't a dry eye in the room!

I thought this time around it would be nice to have someone else do the work. ;)

I have a dress! :bunny: My last hope was Lord & Taylor, and I've ~never~ shopped there. I was quite pleased to see that they had a nice, large dress department, including LBDs and formals. (Macy's had a few leftovers and nothing new. It was apparent they were trying to clear out old stock.)

I'd selected one in gold, but told the saleslady that I really hoped it didn't work as I was sure it would have to be hemmed and I was also sure there wouldn't be time. She asked when I needed it -- before Friday  -- and she said, "Yeah, sure, no problem." Okay, that settled it... if this dress worked, I was buying it no matter the cost.

The dress did look nice, and miracle of miracles! was the proper length. The saleslady said it looked nice, too, but suggested I try it in blue. She brought it, I tried it, and VOILA! It's a jewel-tone royal blue (which will match hubby's dress blue Army uniform nicely) with a sparkly bodice. I tried to find a picture online, but no luck. You'll just have to wait and see our formal pics when we get back! ;)

Becky,

Blue is the color of the ocean and loyalty.

Blue

The color of the sky and the ocean, blue is one of the most popular colors. It causes the opposite reaction as red. Peaceful, tranquil blue causes the body to produce calming chemicals, so it is often used in bedrooms.  Fashion consultants recommend wearing blue to job interviews because it symbolizes loyalty. People are more productive in blue rooms. Studies show weightlifters are able to handle heavier weights in blue gyms.

Way to go Becky! I'm so glad you found that dress. It sounds very pretty. Enjoy your cruise!

This dress is better suited for a first marraige  of a professional.

Renewing vows tends towards classic .

But now that you found the dress, I think you should shop for the most outrageous shoes you can find to match.

A woman wants to look wonderful, feel wonderful, think wonderful.

She never wants to be compared to something she is not, made to feel like something she is not, made to think she is something she is not.
