Are you another "dear" in the headlights.

Sheila, I kinda know what you mean. Hubby nearly totally ignored me the first couple of times I brought up doing a vow renewal. But he's been so deep into finishing a correspondence course lately that's pretty much his standard way of being. Finally I said, "You know, it would really do me some good if you could say something like, 'Gosh, that's sounds like a really nice idea!' " So what does he say, "That sounds like a really nice idea!" :eyeroll: Sorry, I said, let's try this again when it's not an emotionally-charged issue and we can really talk about it. :dangit: Next time I brought it up we could at least talk about it!

You have a good point, True. So I won't discount white. ;)

I am SO stressed out at this point with trying to get all the details of the ordination celebration taken care of before we leave, get this MAJOR project done, and buy clothing and all the other things we need for the cruise. :crazy:I NEED A MAID OF HONOR! :P

How funny! I was thinking he'd look so cute in a little tux, but then he couldn't be a "maid". Becky, anyone close to you going on the same cruise?

Actually, I was thinking that I need a maid of honor-type person for all the ordination details. :P This evening one of my neighbors volunteered to do whatever I ask, so you'd better believe I'm going to take her up on that! (And TG we were already planning to invite her & her hubby to the festivities. ;) )

We're talking about a preacher here. It was bad enough when we were talking about fancy leopard lingerie. Preachers don't do those things, do they????

For about a week I've been considering posting this but I'm not sure how to do it without sounding bitchy (which is not my intention and I mean no disrespect to those of you who are into this.  Honest.)  Looks like tonight I've decided to jump in.:big grin:

DH and I have been married for 26 years.  We were 19 and 21 when we got married.  Were married 8 years before our first child was born.  We have a really good life, are generally happy people and tend to agree fundamentally on most things.  There have been ups and downs over the years but nothing monumental so far that would permanently divide us and we've been able to work through everything that's popped up.

Here's the thing.  I have NO desire to renew my vows.  Neither does he.  Like none.  We've talked about it when we hear of people doing it and both of us just kind of go . We just don't get it.

Tell me what it is that makes people want to do this.  I honestly don't mean this in a derogatory manner.  We just go about life, doing what we do, enjoying the kids, not enjoying the kids:shock:, enjoying our friends, travelling, paying bills, golfing etc.  We get along really well (most days) and we laugh a lot.   What's wrong with us that we don't get this?

Pastor Becky, consider this your first official CTT counselling session.:big grin:

ML, it would be a very long story as to why this is important to us at this particular time. I agree with everything you've said, and thank God your life is such that you don't feel the need to renew your vows!

Long story short, I think it marks for us a major coming together of many threads in our lives, issues we've been fighting through (not with each other but with life in general) for 16 years. It seems like recently life has finally become "right" for us after some severe injustices 16 years ago. John Mark is now being promoted to lieutenant colonel, and I'm getting ordained. It's a major turning point for both of us individually and together. It just somehow seems appropriate to mark the occasion of us embarking on new lives separately and together, and a good time to make a new start and re-commit.

Does that make sense?

Thanks, Mike! He's on the list, and will probably pin on ~Oct. 1st. He got a really low number on the list (#39), so I'm extra proud of him. I'm already working on how to spend his raise. :big grin:

Oh, and BTW... the deluxe renewal of vows package on Princess includes a tour of the bridge with the Captain. We thought that would be a cool thing to do. ;)

It does.  Congrats to you both.

It's not so much that our life is perfect or anything and that we couldn't benefit from something like this, because we're definitely not perfect:shock:.  I just always wonder what it is about us that this doesn't appeal to us personally.  We're weird I think.  We must be because Bama agrees:big grin:.
