I'm sitting here tanning............. who else is?
After that last disaster with self tanning, I've bought the lotions that takes a week to show anything..... By gosh, I think I'm starting to see some colour today, and it's only day 3.
Sure beats lying on those questionable beds that some questionable young "exotic dancer" just used.

My tanning days are a thing of the past, unfortunately.  :(   All of my 8-hr days in the sun with baby oil on is catching up with me.  Never used any kind of sunscreen until I was in my 30's, I think.
After the surgical removal of one basal cell skin cancer on my forehead, I am wearing the 30 sunscreen with a sun visor on every time I'm at the beach or pool now.
The dermatologist found another "suspicious" area above my right eyebrow a few weeks ago that he has scheduled for a biopsy next week.
Great.......just in time for the X-Mas photo's..........
:shoot me:

Sounds like when I was in college (a number of years ago) and went to Florida for springbreak. Way too much sun on my chest. Huge blisters and pain. Then, did something really stupid, went back to the beach with a T-shirt on which was good, but here's the stupid part, I went in the ocean. One wave hit me, popped the blisters, started bleeding and ohhhhh the pain of the salt water hitting those open blisters. Never again! Learned my lesson.

I had that kind of sunburn once.  I went to the beach ALL day with a friend.  He got BADLY burned.  He's Italian.  I'm Irish.  I don't know what you call what I got.

Yowsa, those are some stories.  Catnip, good luck with the biopsy next week.  Keep us posted.  I have been trying to stay away since getting shingles from a bad sunburn a few years ago.  As time goes by, it is so easy to forget.

Seawitches, what self-tanner are you using this time?

Thanks, Coka.  After already had one skin cancer removed from my forehead, I am praying that this won't be a cancer.  It's right at the edge of my right eyebrow, so I'm hoping they won't have to shave it for the biopsy!!!
My aunt used to get shingles and she said how painful it was.

Ha! Advantage Repsol!  I'm African American (pronounced Black) and even in the dead of winter I have a nice cinnamon-brown coat.  Even so, I do get darker in the summer and am just as prone to burn as anyone else.  I've made several visits to the community pool and have gotten a pretty decent base that should carry me through the Caribb unscathed.

Catnip, I trust everything worked out for you?  I just had a suspicious mole removed from my upper back.  Turned out to be nothing but it did give me a bit of a start.

No more sun for me either.

A friend wanted to look good in her daughter's wedding photos and got one of those airbrush tans and it looked nice. Just enough, not a weird color.

Actually, it did turn out to be another basal-cell skin cancer (my 2nd) :(.  But I had the surgery to have it removed and the surgeon got all the cancer cells out. Whew!

A friend of mine that I worked with years ago was a light-skinned black guy. We were very good friends and I talked him into taking a scuba diving course with me at the local YMCA.  He only lasted for 3 classes before he decided that scuba diving wasn't for him.......but, during the course, he told me that he had to be very careful when he was at the beach because he would get sunburned. I really had never thought of it before that.....but he had freckles on his face and green eyes.  I thought  it was because he was pretty light-skinned.  But he said that most all blacks could get sunburned if they were not careful.
See....I LOVE it here at CTT! I learn something almost every day!!!!!! :llama:

Been there done that.

I figured since I was already dark and had never burned before I had some kind of special power over UV rays.  On the Glory cruise, I did one of your numbers and basted myself in baby oil - then spent 5 hours on the sun deck.  Tell you what, this brutha got toasted!  The entire next day it hurt to be awake.

Yeah, we burn too.:eyeroll:

I remember the days of using baby oil and iodine to tan. What were we thinking?

My mom used baby oil with iodine  and one of those reflective face thingies. It had 3 sides and you pointed it at your face and chest.

I held her hand more times as she was sliced and diced  on her face and chest. She was blond and had pale blue eyes...what was she thinking?

But they all did it then. And her cousins didn't have the same problems because they were dark haired and brown eyed.

It's the way you were made to be!

My son is marrying a redheaded green eyed beauty that has never liked the sun. She says it makes her sick. I think of her skin as fine porceleyne. Why mess it up?

So he goes sits by the pool when they vacation and she sleeps in.

My best friend in high school had dark red hair and freckles.  She would burn so bad, but she'd stay out on the beach for 4-5 hours on the weekends, just like me.
Nowdays, she says even 1-hr in the sun makes her break out in a red rash......sun poisening, maybe?
