"Can I wear jeans in the dining room?"

That is one of the most asked questions on cruise boards. Some cruiselines don't make this policy clear. CCL says no shorts in the dining room in the evening but nothing about jeans.

JMHO, I feel that it is wrong to wear jeans in the dining room. The cruiselines work very hard to make your dining experience an upscale one and I find it rude that some wear their everyday jeans in the dining room. They are treating you to an experience so return the gesture and dress appropriatly.

On our Ecstasy cruise in 2003, I saw a rather large man come to the DR one night in a pair of Big Smith Overalls! I was sure that he would be turned away from the DR but he was allowed to stay!

Also on this same cruise, I saw a very unusual formal attire. This woman wore a loud orange polyester outfit. She had weaves in her hair that had several different colored ribbons in them that did not match the dress. But stuck between some of the weaves was a stick with a bird glued on it!! I had to look twice when I first saw her because who expects to see a bird on a stick in someone's hair??? I could not help but stare...along with everyone else! She was obviously loving the attention because she kept throwing her hair around like she was Cher!!LMAO!! That has to be the strangest outfit I've ever seen on a cruise!

So has anyone else seen any strange attire in the DR?

I don't recall seeing jeans, but we had tablemates on RCI who wore shorts one evening. While I don't think they are appropriate, I didn't say anything. They were nice people who had an elderly mother in the infirmary for most of the cruise. We only got to meet her the next to the last night of the cruise.

On a Princess cruise there was a gentleman who had a different color NEON tux for every night. He was a very happy man and made us smile.

On our first Carnival cruise, there was a man (not a gentleman) poolside who had more gold chains around his neck than Mr. T. He was very rude to the servers and I've never forgotten him.

That's hysterical!!!!!  :lmao1:

I can't really recall any over the top outfits in the DR.  I guess I just don't notice others' outifts very much. LOL!

When I was on Brilliance of the Seas this past March, there was no signs saying "no jeans in the DR".  I ws surprised, because I thought they did not want jeans in the evening. Maybe this is a new policy?  That's too bad if they are now "dumbing down" the suggested dress code. :out of it:

I don't get bent out of shape about it... but I do think the dining room calls for a little "nicer" dress than jeans.  Although I have seen some people look just fine.  I think alot of first time cruisers don't know that the dining rooms are as nice as they are... and then afterwards wish they would have worn something a little nicer.  I am SO over the whole jeans debate.  You can't change someone's mind about it.  I think if most people use common sense and throw a little etiquette in there, they will make the right choice.  I just want to see someone that took the effort to look decent... there was a man on our first cruise that I swear had not bothered to brush his hair after what appeared to have been a great nap... I mean Grooming 101 people :P

"Barbie Gone Bad" on the Easter Carnival Spirit cruise (Shanafan can verify) would have been more presentable in the dining room in jeans than the outfit she wore two nights. See thru harem netting with a thong, and a sequined bra with pasties for the nipple area. She was a South American porn star, she had her entourage with her too, and they didn't dare dress like her.

I wouldn't think of wearing jeans in the dining room, but a really funky jean suit might be good on casual night. I'm an old lady and I like to dress for dinner.

I know Princess clearly states "no jeans or shorts in the dining room in the evening".  That's pretty plain and easy to read & understand.
So, why do people have so much trouble understanding that concept?

I honestly do not notice what folks are wearing unless it is something that is really off the wall. I don't care if people wear jeans and as a matter of fact some people can dress up rather nice in them. I guess I don't get the dress code watchers that are out there. There was a thread on CC RCI board the other day about wearing flip flops to the dining room. Man some folks got bent out of shape on that one.

While I do agree that what others wear doesn't ruin my evening, I do think to dine in the "formal" dining room, you should follow the guide lines.
If you don't want to get "all dressed up", there's many other places on the ships to enjoy a nice dinner.........the casual Lido or Windjammer cafe's, pizza parlors, the specialty restaurants,  & there is alwyas room service!

I could care less what other people wear.  I'm barely invested in what I wear.  I'm  more intested in the other person's hygiene.  I'd rather sit next to someone in jeans than someone with bad body odor.

I'll agree with you there!!!  I'd take someone in flip flops and jeans before someone with bad body odor!!!!!

Or gas! :big grin: I used to hang out on the fashion board on CC about 5 years ago. Back then, it was all about looking great from head to toe and following the guidelines. These days, not so much. I do make the effort to look my best, but as for my fellow diners, I'd rather be surrounded by good people in shorts or jeans than jerks dressed to the nines.

Mr Tractor wore something similar on a recent FOMT cruise!

I think Thongs should be limited to some very stringent age and body size requirements!  Basically a thong should only be worn by a female between 18 and maybe 25  and unrelated to me and at least 10% below optimal body mass.

Sorry, the thought of the tractor boy in such a thing is gross!:vomit:

There are some things everyone should see once in their life and a tractor wearing a thong is one of them! If everyone is nice to PE he might post a pic of it!
