Got a question.  Apparently there's a character limit on our signatures.  I'm "hatching" four "dragon eggs".  To post these "eggs" in my signature, I have a tinyurl for each of them.  Each tinyurl is like 75 characters, which means I can only post 3 of my four eggs (and when they hatch, I'll only be able to show 3 of my four dragons).

Is there any way to condense a url further?  Or to combine urls?

Help, anyone?????

my problem is, the url is a url + image, which means the tinyurl is a tinyurl+tinyimage, and I can't figure out how to condense it further.

Here's the tinycode for one of them, so you can see what I mean:
[ url=http://tinyurl.com/4wkc97][ img]http://tinyurl.com/4xpvk4[/ img][/ url]

I looked to see if there was any obvious way to make the signature area larger, but I didn't see a way.  We will check into it and get back to you.  Sorry best answer I could come up with on my own.

I don't think the mods can adjust the size of the siggy field.

That's what I'm getting too. Sorry Cathy. I think you're just limited by the board parameters. I hope those eggs hatch soon!

Might be a good thing - At least we don't have to deal with signatures that are half a page long with 6 countdown clocks and a list of 15 cruises and a picture of their dogs. :big grin:

:roflmao: This is true! Those things drive me nuts on the dark side and I know they're a pain in the butt for people who have dialup.

Thanks for the responses.  Over on the other board (E-hell) where I found out about the dragons, the sig field is 300, which is just enough for the four eggs and my name.

I think what I'll do is once they hatch, I'll do a "dragon of the week" over here, and only get one new egg at a time.  That'll allow me to do other things with my signature, such as put in my quote again.

Edited to add - did you notice the big holes??  They're starting to hatch!! :big grin:

Actually, that's pretty funny.  You can "fog" them up if they're going to get too much traffic, and I might do that in a little while.  Eggs do die if their ratios get out of whack.  (And when they hatch, it's best to fog them for a bit.)

I'm not sure how it works exactly, but there's views, unique views (once you've seen mine once, when you see them again - even in a signature on a page you're viewing, it's no longer a unique view, but it still adds to the view count), and clicks (I think every click counts, but I'm not sure).  I'm not sure what is bad with the ratio, except that you want as many unique views as you can get.  I think if the ratio gets to be 5:1 with views:unique views, than that's bad.  Right now, I'm at about 2:1.

And now that you know way more than you wanted to about hatching a dragon, it's probably time to go put mine to bed (fog them for the night). :P

So I've been playing around, and I'm thinking about something like this - basically an image of my dragons, and a link to my scroll, perhaps.

(right now it has no linkies - I'm still messing with it, and want to make it see-through in some way.  - anyone have experience with Paint & Imageshack??)
