July 16, 2008 -- A Venezuela-bound cruise ship with 1,200 passengers aboard was detained in New York Harbor after a Coast Guard inspection found significant hull damage.
The inspection of the Clipper Pacific, which began on Sunday and ended Tuesday, found that the ship's hull was leaking, the Coast Guard said. The inspection found 66 safety problems on the ship, including damage to the lifeboats and life jacket issues.

Whoa! I would NOT want to try sailing to Venezuela from NYC in a leaky ship with that many safety issues!

I abhor things that leak. That said, nothing a few Gorman Rupps could keep up with.

| UPDATE: The Clipper Pacific departed NYC on Thursday making its way toward Tampa for repair work after overnight temporary repair work was conducted by divers. Passengers were allowed to decided if they wanted to stay on the ship or disembark in NY.

Well I'm not taking sides here but (as always) the way it would seem for "Joe Sixpack" reading press arties this is a big deal. I've gone down the punch lists before and sure they can have seemingly endless pages on them. The most serious would be the leak and everything else is just icing on the cake. Life vest issues? Sure those little "safety light" things (about as useful as tits on a bull in the real world), I mean come on! A 10cd white LED? Anyhow they have an expiration date. Just ONE vest past the expirary point = squawk report. You get the idea.
Good news she's been cleared to leave for more (permanent) repairs in FL.
