Two friends of ours have booked the November 13, 2007 Regatta repositioning cruise from Barcelona to Miami. It's only $1299 for 12 nights in an ocean view cabin.
They sailed the same trip last November and loved it except for 2 days of very choppy seas leaving Spain.
Do any of you have any experience with Oceania? It sounds like a very nice cruise line and the price is so reasonable that we are seriously thinking of joining Gary and Ian next November.

| There are a lot of Oceania converts on CC- once they tried them they're hooked. Only complaint I've read about is that Oceania processed the passengers credit cards overseas & the passengers have to pay the 3% exchange rate conversion fee..

Mary Ann is right about the $$ conversion, also I think the two for one's that they advertise works out to be the same in pricing, just a play on words??? It's only for select sailing too.
I researched them big time, as we would really like to try them out. I think they live up to what they promise, cost for us was just a tad outside the regular cruiselines. More inline with SilverSea/Crystal.
What I really like about them is the fact that they have real humans that read the boards/ answer questions and are very honest with the posters.
What I don't like about their threads..... there are two real jerks that post there, who need to be put in their place (one day I may challenge them )........ sounds like all the other jerks over there doesn't it?

Thank you, hstrybuf, for the very helpful information and the great links. I've been so busy at work that this is the first chance I've had to get back and check this thread. After reading all the posts and checking out the info on the links, I'm more excited than ever about booking this cruise.
I'm still not clear about how Oceania's "free air fare" works. Once I get that question and a couple others answered I think I'll be ready to book.

The free air is only from certain airports. From where you are, there's "free air" from Dulles, but Reagan & Baltimore are $199 per person extra. The "free air" also doesn't include $269 per person for taxes, and $101 per person for round-trip transfers (their price). The cruise tax is another $228 per person.
All things considered, it's still a decent deal for that level of a cruise line.

I finally got around to booking the cruise, airline and hotel in Barcelona through nhrich's travel agency last weekend. Actually, I think his wife Jeri did most of the work.
We are going to do the transatlantic repositioning cruise on Oceania's Regatta next November. We fly to Barcelona and spent a couple of days then sail for 13 nights to Miami, including Thanksgiving at sea.
Rich (or Jeri) got us a one-stop flight to Barcelona for about $440 PP and the cruise is less than $1300 PP. The Barcelona Princess Hotel is actually more expensive than the cruise on a per person, per night basis - when you add the cost of food.
We're really starting to get excited.

That's great Adam! And the prices, other than the hotel, are really affordable! Rich and Jeri are great to work with. I know they're getting on the Grand Princess this weekend for a little vacation themselves.
Have you made any plans for Barcelona? I think seawitches and some of the other members had posted links in the Europe and Links forums. Look at page 2 in the Europe forum.

I'm resurrecting this thread in the hopes that our members might have new information to add?
I got a call from my Dad this afternoon. He's thinking of booking the Traveling Aggies (alumni from Texas A&M University) group cruise on the Regatta from LA to Miami on Jan. 28th and wanted information. He remembered we'd previously talked about the R-Class ships, so that's one of the reasons this cruise caught his eye. Cost is ~$4100 pp for a balcony for 16 days, including airfare.
I told Dad I don't know anything about Oceania other than the fact that they got two of the R-Class ships. So, here are the questions that I think are most pertinent for him:
(1) What's the onboard dress code? (Real life, not necessarily what they print in the brochure)
(2) What are the passenger demographics?
(3) Are any alcoholic beverages included in the fare?
(4) What are the onboard entertainment and activities like? (I don't think his GF missed a single bingo session on our Gem T/A )
(5) Size of cabins? (say, compared to any of the mass-market lines)
(6) Anything else you'd like to add?
THANKS in advance!

Maybe some of our TAs have tried Oceania. I looked at their Web site and they have a slide show of "a day in the life" with lots of pictures. That might help with some of your questions. I'll also look to see if Cruise Diva has done a recent review on one of their ships.

I know a little, as we were looking at a Med cruise next May on Regatta.
-vibration in cabin, the lower decks are the worst (try for deck?8)
-tips are more than reg cruise line
-cruise pre and post hotels are double in price
-no formal nights
-older cruisers
-approx 600 pax
-Regatta is going into dry dock Mar 09
-better ports due to ship size
-good food
-onboard drinks more expensive
-quieter atmosphere
-less entertainment
-once you factor in air / cruise / and possible two for one deal it is no cheaper.
-fuel surcharge is more
-if air is included, it DOES not inclued, taxes, air taxes, fuel surcharge etc etc. It is flight only.
Hope this helps

Hi everyone. This is my first post on this forum. I have been on "O" three times with my husband. We love their ships!!!
I have been on Celebrity some 20something times and RCCL about 10 and NCL about 3 and Holland 1.
I can say with certainty the O is different. It is very laid back and quiet. There are small intimate places to gather. The entertainment is on a much smaller scale than the others. The service is on a higher scale and the food is on a higher scale.
There are no set dining times and reservations are not accepted in the main dining room. Reservations are required in the two specialty restaurants - however there is no additional charge. All the restaurants are spectacular. We have never had to wait longer than a drink at the bar for a table in the dining room - regardless of the time of the evening that we went. The only issue with the food is that there are food "dead times" that do not exist on the bigger lines. The buffet for lunch closes at 2pm. There is a splendid outdoor grill - but that closes at 4pm. Tea time is from 4-5pm. If you want anything after that but before dinner roomservice is the only choice. The room service is excellent though.
We have had rooms in the center of the ship on deck 8 and we recently did the med on deck 7 in an aft cabin. I never noticed the dreaded vibration everyone always talks about - and I am usually very sensitive to this.
Our only complaint with O is that they do not do cruises less than 10 days and we are in our 40s and still work. We can't take these longer cruises more than once per year so we still travel on the others for the shorter 4, 5, 7, and 9 day cruises that we can easily fit into our schedule.
I'm sure you will enjoy your trip. Please let us know what you think when you return.
Barbara
