| Wow that looks great. Looks like they're trying out an NCL like experience on Radiance with all the different food choices. Sounds good.

Damn! Splendour is my favorite RCCL ship and now they are going to screw her up.

UGH.
Actually I don't see that they are screwing up the Splendour. They are taking 100 outside staterooms and adding balconies to them. I see that as a plus. Also by adding two specialty dining rooms, it gives guests more options. The addition of flat screen TV's, new cabin/public room furnishings are a plus too. Add to that a Diamond lounge and Concierge lounge for free drinks. I really don't see anything negative with that. It shows me that RCI is going to keep her around for a while and that's a good thing for the ones that like the smaller ships. :)
The only negative for some will be the Royal Tots nursery but then again I look at that as a positive. You won't have babies in the dining room at dinner time now. They will be in the care of the nursery.

You forget Denise does not like modern technology or fresh air.

I love fresh air! That's why I like the older, mid size ships! You can actually enjoy the fresh air and know you are on a cruise ship and not inside a land-based amusement park or mall.

| Hi All, just joined and first post here. Have been cruising Royal Caribbean and other lines for some years. I have attained a certain status on Royal (almost Diamond Plus). My take on the upgrades to Ships without Diamond lounges is that they are building Diamond/Diamond Plus lounges on these ships because they will be restricting the CL's on these ships to Suite Guests only. Fair guess? I used to get in these CL's as Diamond but the last 2 years or so have only been to the Nightly Diamond Events (not the same). But the Diamond lounges on Freedom and Oasis Class are very nice. I have no complaints if when I make Diamond Plus I only have access to the Diamond Lounge as long as cocktails and beer are included. What say you?

Welcome Kitty Kat, probably a good surmise. But if we listen to the rumors they are not going to need diamond lounges because they will raise the bar to 100 cruises or something. I am just a plain ole diamond, and not too worried either way. The diamond event is fine, and it beats a sharp stick in the eye.

Thank you for the welcome xpcdoojk. Yes I agree. I always prefer a complimentary glass of wine to a sharp stick in the eye as well!!!

That has been a HUGE bone of contention over on the big, mega-cruise boards. And I can see everyone's point, and if I was still a Diamond, I would be pretty pissed off, too. (I turned D+ 2 years ago)
I only cruise on the mid-size ships (Mariner was the biggest RCCL ship I've been on and really didn't care for it), so I'm used to going to the CL's. But I understand that on those ships they open another lounge, where they have free wine (not sure what other drinks are free) every night. Is that correct?

| Yes, on the Mariner in February, we went to the Dungeon (or whatever they called that bar with the Goth theme) every night for a few hours, and they offer, sparkling wine, red, white and pink wine. I don't think they offered anything else, but I think there is a discount on other drinks. We just had a glass or two of the swill ate a few nuts and moved on. Chatted with a few folks and went on about our evening. We are not big bar sitters. I would rather have a glass with the wife on the balcony.

Yes, on all the ships smaller (and older) than the Freedom and Oasis Class they have a nightly Diamond event held in a bar on ship with complimentary white and red wine, champagne and soda. Beer and cocktails are 25% off. On the Freedom and Oasis Classes they have an actual Diamond Lounge which is much nicer than any CL on Voyager or Radiance Class. They serve complimentary beer and cocktails as well as wine, champagne and soda and have concierge type service and the lounge is very roomy.
So if they are going to put Diamond Lounges on the Radiance Class and Voyager Class that will be great for Diamonds. My favorite Royal Caribbean Ships are the Radiance Class, although the Oasis is a really amazing ship!

The Radiance when new was my first return to RCI after I cheated with Carnival and Celebrity (still like Celebrity), we had a tremendous cruise from Vancouver to Hawaii one month after 911. RCI and Celebrity are both still my favorite cruiseline. I prefer everything on Celebrity except the flowrider. I love the flowrider. Problem is that for most cruises (especially Oasis and soon Allure) is those crappy 7 day east/west Caribbean cruises. Been there done that. We did the Independence of the Seas in late November for the transatlantic, got to surf everyday for a week 4 hours a day. I was beaten to death, but loved every minute of it. Well, I didn't love falling, but other than that....

I have yet to book Celebrity. Was going to twice and ended up booking Royal Caribbean both times because of dates/ports. But I have heard very good things about Celebrity, especially their newer ships.
Aaahhhh....the Flowrider! My husband and kids have done it many times on Freedom, Liberty and Oasis. Me? No way! Too dangerous!

I was just re-reading Gordon's post at the top of the page, and noticed this about upgrades on Splendour of the Seas:
Diamond Lounge
Diamond and Diamond Plus Crown & Anchor® Society members enjoy access to this lounge space, created to serve these loyal guests with concierge access, complimentary breakfast, and evening open bar.
Concierge Lounge
The Concierge Lounge will boast similar features as the Diamond Lounge, and will cater to Diamond and Diamond Plus Crown & Anchor® Society members, as well as guests booked in Grand Suite-levels rooms and higher.
Color me confused........it looks like D and D+ members will have their own "Diamond Lounge". But, they can also use the Concierge Lounge, too?

Almost. Diamond guests are not allowed to use the Concierge lounge unless they are booked in a suite.
D+ can use either lounge. At least for now. Looks like RCI is going back to add Diamond lounges on all of their ships as they go in for refurbishments.

It's a little confusing since it says: The Concierge Lounge will boast similar features as the Diamond Lounge, and will cater to Diamond and Diamond Plus Crown & Anchor® Society members,
It doesn't say that the Diamond members have to be in a suite. I think that's where a lot of the problems are coming from & why so many Diamond members are pissed off.......a little misinformation out there.
But, it really doesn't affect me, since I am D+! Whew! LOL!

| Have you checked your account on RCI's website since they changed from cruise points to cruise days? I was surprised that they actually got it right on the change over.

If you were D+ then you stayed that way. RCI grandfathered everyone in at their current level. The only ones that were really affected were the Platinum. They now have a new tier between Platinum and Diamond. Emerald!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
