Does anyone know the schedule of refurbishments on the RCI fleet?  I am thinking of booking a transatlantic and I refuse to sleep on the old bedding!

New or old bedding, that's still a great cruise. Just a super blend of sea and port days on a beautiful ship. Hope you love it as much as we did. :D

Well the bedding on the Jewel last month sucked. It was without a doubt the worst bedding that I have experienced on a ship. Even the egg crate did not help. I am looking forward to the Brilliance to having the new bedding in September.

Yes, we did it in`04 and it was a great cruise. Had an aft balcony on deck 10 and it was  awesome to see the locks working on the way out.

We did this same cruise last March. I think this will be our 3rd Brilliance cruise and the 4th time we've done the Canal. It's an awesome sight!!!!!  I bet an aft balcony cabin was superb!!!

For Denise. Have you cruised on the Song of Norway? I took this photo when I was on my first cruise back in 1986. She was arriving in Cozumel and I was aboard the Starward of NCL.

Yes it was. We went up front going in, and manuvered to the side at different levels to get a complete picture of the workings of the locks. Truly an amazing and memorable experience. It's definately on our must-do-again list of cruises.

Gordon,
SON was my first RCCL cruise, back in either '83 or '84. We did another SON cruise a few years later, so I might have been on her when you took that pic!!!!  LOL!!!!  I was on the SON twice, and the Song of America 3 times.  I just love those old ships!!!!
They look so tiny now, but back then, they were gargantuan!!!!!  And I loved the Viking Crown Lounge on those ships---on the SON, you had to walk up a staircase on the outside of the smokestack!!!!!!

We saw a very familar ship when we stopped in Funchal, Madeira during our transatlantic last November. It was called "Thomson Destiny" and we were told later this ship was previously known as "Song of America."

Actually some of the old RCI ships still have their Crown and Anchor lounge. I believe only one ship lost hers. I saw the old Song of America in St. Maarten back in 01 and she still had her C&A lounge. She was sailing for My Travel as the Sunbird. At that time she was being sold to the UK market. She still looked good.

Yes, the Thomson Destiny (Song of America) still had the Crown and Anchor lounge. When we first spotted it we knew it looked very similar to a Royal Caribbean ship. It was fascinating to see how much ships have changed over the past 25 years. It's surprising the ship is still in service considering it's size and lack of balconies. I imagine in Europe that isn't as important as here in the US. And we thought the Empress was small. Taking a shower on her felt like showering in a coffin. I guess we are spoiled nowadays. :)

That's good to know some of the Crown lounges were left. I guess it would have been a major undertaking to remove them from around the smokestack.

But, on the Sun Vikign and Song of Norway, you had to climb stairs and enter it from the outside!!  On the back of the smokestack!!!!!!!

I don't think the showers have improved all that much in a regular cabin on RCCL (not a suite,  just a regular room)!!!!!  They are a tad bit bigger, but the shower stalls are still mighty tiny!!!!!  With that darn shower curtain that sticks to you while you are showering!!!!!! :eyeroll:

Gordon,
I know you book suite's a lot. In all of my 30+ years of cruising,  I have never stayed in a suite, for various reasons. But, on our Med cruise in October, we have booked a jr suite.
Have you ever been on Splendour of the Seas, or have any knowledge about the jr suites on that class ship?

Denise, I have never cruised on a Vision class ship but from what I have heard the JS cabins are a pretty nice size on those ships. I have had a JS on the Sovereign and Navigator. They were both nice with the Navigator being a lot larger. Having a bathtub is nice for the extra space even though I use it for showers only.

I really have a hard time booking regular cabins now. I have a Deluxe Veranda Suite booked for the Oosterdam and a Owners suite booked for the Freedom. They spoil you!!!!!!:smiley1:

Thanks, Gordon! I'll have to wait and see if it's worth the extra $$ to me. We have always been happy in a regular cabin with a balcony in the past.
