CRUISE PLANNERS, a South Florida-based cruise agency with a franchised network of more than 700 travel professionals, received the first Home-Based Partner of the Year award from Royal Caribbean International. The award was presented as part of Royal Caribbean's annual ONE Awards recognizing the cruise line's top travel industry partners.

Now I'm confused.  I used them on my last cruise, and the agent never even sent me docs.  I got their name /bid through Cruisecompete.  I actually thought I was gonna get ripped off, as it was so odd.  Wanted me to pay by check, and he would try to get me an upgrade.

The only reason I knew I was sort of OK was checking the RCCL website.

The week I got back, I was told the guy was no longer associated with Cruise Planners.  It said it was based in Casselbury, Fl.

Pete, Cruise Planners, is a franchise deal.  The way one franchisee operates may vary from others, as they're all separately owned & operated agencies.  That franchisee definitely sounds like it might have been a shady operation.

Well, they were very quick to disassociate themselves with this guy.

Luckily, everything worked out for me.

My mistake was not using my normal TA, but she only specialized in Carnival.

I have to laugh at your avatar.   I watched the Last Mimsy recently, and I'm looking at the teacher, thinking I knew this guy from somewhere.  Who know it was "YOU". :big grin:

OK, here is how we got involved:

DW has been a successful Mary Kay Sales Director for many years (Pink Cadillac and the whole nine yards), but got tired of working so many nights and weekends. About a year and a half ago, she backed off and basically quit working it to spend more time with the girls (now 14 & 11). She has continued to meet minimum production without doing anything, but it did affect our income. So, we started looking for something else she could do and enjoy, while making money and decided on a home based travel agency.

We looked at several options (franchises and host agencies) and consulted our friends who own a Cruise Planners/American Express franchise (they had booked our last 3 cruises) for advice. They said they were retiring in a few years and wanted to know if we were interested in buying them out over time. This was a great opportunity for us because of the buying power, training and support of a large franchise company behind us, plus having successful franchisee mentors right off of the bat. It has been a win/win situation for us and our partners. My wife got a faster start than she would have starting from scratch and our partners got contacts, energy, some knowledge, and technical skills that they didn't have before. Plus, they are comfortable about what will ultimately happen to their business. Because of the American Express affiliation (as well as several other affiliations), we are also able to offer competitively priced land tour packages.

That's our story. You asked for it, you got it. ;) :big grin:
