One of the most discussed threads on the net. Johnny Rockets and the charges.

Johnny Rockets

Currently Royal Caribbean has Johnny Rocket diners on the following ships.
Voyager of the Seas
Explorer of the Seas
Adventure of the Seas
Navigator of the Seas
Mariner of the Seas
Sovereign of the Seas

There is a cover charge of $3.95 per person regardless if you dine in or take out. Beverages such as soft drinks and shakes are extra. Those who dine in can order any amount of food. Take out orders are limited to one each of the following. Sandwich/burger, French Fries, Onion Rings and dessert per person/cover charge.

Crown and Anchor members receive one coupon per book for the $3.95 cover charge. Beverages are extra. The $3.95 cover charge does includes tip but you can tip an additonal amount if you like. The charge goes onto your Sea Pass card.

Johnny Rockets hours vary depending on embarkation day, sea day and port days. Check your Cruise Compass for hours each day.

The menu has basic items such as hamburgers, cheeseburgers, grilled ham and cheese, grilled chicken BLT, chili, chili dogs, hot dogs, chili fries, onion rings, apple pie ala mode, Oreo Sundae and shakes.

I like them too. I ate at the JR's on the Navigator about three or four times that week. I never got tired of it. Love their apple pie ala mode. Very good.

We have several here, quite addicting. As long as I eat the burgers on whole wheat or without the bun and avoid all but one or two of the fries and onion rings ( which is hard to do) I am ok. But when I went to my first one a number of years ago, I saw that they made them just like my gram used to make, I was in love, real old fashioned hamburgers!  Better than the crap at McD's and BK.

Yum, now I have to have one!

Johnny Rockets is also on Freedom of the Seas.  By February 2007, there will also be one on Majesty of the Seas as part of its refurbishment.

We love Johnny Rockets. We don't usually eat at hamburger joints, so it's a treat when we're cruising. We usually eat there on port days - there is no line up, and it is a LOT cheaper than eating on shore.

I don't mind paying the extra bucks for lunch there. My feeling is that you don't have to eat there if you don't like the extra charge.

Good point Guinevere and I agree! We used our C&A coupons to give JRs a try. It was enough to satisfy our curiosity and we enjoyed it. We don't have JRs here so it was something new for us.

Nice to see you posting!

If there are 2 Diamond C&A members sharing a cabin, do you each get a coupon?  Or is it one coupon per cabin?

We weren't even Diamond and both got the coupon. Of course, I did ask the steward about them because we didn't get them. She was more than happy to provide them.

DH was a gold member last time, so we got one coupon. This time I am a member too, so we'll both get them.

I am seriously dieting for the next two weeks, just so I can sit and eat the never-ending plates of onion rings and fries. :big grin:

Did they put one on the Enchantment too?  The Libery should also be getting hers soon.

It's my understanding that none of the Vision class will get JR's. Only the Voyager, Freedom and Sovereign class are scheduled to get them. I believe that they are going to take Jade out of the Monarch and add JR's.

I read that JR's has gone up to $5.00 on the Liberty.

Is this true?

I have not heard of RCI raising the price on JR's. If they did that it would be fleet wide and not on just one ship. I ate at JR's on the Liberty last week but since it was a pre inaugural cruise there was no charge to dine there. I believe the price is still $3.95 fleet wide. We would have read about it by now on Cruise Critic.

I copied where I read it on CC.  I hope it's still 3.95 otherwise I won't be able to get my husband to go.  Of course, I can always get it to go and just show up with an order ;)

In a surprise announcement from the bridge, our cruise to nowhere became a high-speed cruise to somewhere as a serious medical emergency with a crewman forced the ship to steam directly for Key West to be within reach of a Coast Guard medivac helicopter rendezvousing with the ship. No details were available and the entire forward portion of the ship was cordoned off as preparations were made to land the Coast Guard chopper on Liberty's helipad.

The helicopter circled the ship about six times, then passed low over the Lido Deck, allowing me to snap the following picture.

I try to eat relatively healthy and light lunches aboard ships, at least making an attempt to convince myself I’ve earned a calorie deficit to give me wider latitude of choices at dinnertime. But I couldn’t get off the ship without sampling a burger and fries at the onboard Johnny Rockets. I was surprised to find that at 1:30 p.m. the restaurant had numerous empty seats. The minute you sit down a server brings a platter with onion rings and French fries, even before you’ve seen a menu, which takes the edge off your hunger while you peruse the menu at leisure. The main drawback is that all burgers are prepared in advance and all are cooked well-done. None are cooked to order. However, I found a trick to getting a burger fresh off the grill; simply ask for one of their standard burgers with items removed or added; that way they can’t grab one of the pre-cooked, pre-wrapped ones sitting under the heat lamps. There is a $5.00 per person cover charge to dine at Johnny Rockets.

The evening was packed with key Liberty of the Seas experiences, at least one of which is almost certain to be on the radar screen of everyone who is considering booking this ship. First, we dined in Portofino, Liberty’s Italian alternative eatery. We found the choices, though limited in number, excellently prepared and presented. The tira misu, served in a chocolate shell was to die for. One piece of advice is that for those to whom having lobster onboard is of prime importance, don’t depend that on “lobster night” those desirable crustaceans will find their way onto the menus of all restaurants onboard, as happens on some other ships. On Liberty lobster is only served in the main restaurant. My second piece of advice – which is probably obvious to most – is to make reservations as soon as possible; Portofino only seats 100. There is a $20.00 per guest cover charge for dining at Portofino.

After dinner we went to Studio B, the ice rink/ice show venue to see “Encore.” This ice show is a real crowd pleaser, with many elements usually found in cruise ship show lounge production spectaculars, beginning with that familiar staple, the Andrew Lloyd Weber medley. The quality and panache of the skaters are terrific, though, truth told, I don’t think most of us could tell a double-Axel from a triple-wheelie. But this is a show you need to get to very early. Studio B only seats 760, and many of those seats, especially on the sides of the balcony have poor sightlines.

Then, after a break to download more of the thread, and to pack, I made my way to the Platinum Theater for the premier performance of “In the Air,” an incredible combination of singing, dance and spectacular aerial feats. This is one of the most impressive cruise ship production shows I have seen, reminiscent to an extent, of Cirque du Soleil in costume and production design. The special effects are top-notch and make use of all the capabilities of the room and stage. This show, being introduced on Liberty, will also be installed on Freedom of the Seas in about six months.

I got back to my stateroom by midnight and fell right to sleep. Good thing as I have to be off the ship by 8:00 a.m. I’ll reboard as soon as possible to cover the naming ceremony and to post my last answers to your questions.

I believe that he is mistaken as the food was free when he was on this cruise also and I saw no signs anywhere stating the price.
