As far as I know, smoking is allowed in every stateroom and every balcony.  It's allowed in certain areas in certain bars.  It's allowed on one side on the outside decks (either starboard or port, not sure which).

Smoking is NOT allowed in the dining rooms or buffet, and on the other side of the outside decks.

We've never had a problem with the room smelling - if it does smell, you can supposedly talk to your steward & they have something that gets rid of it pretty well.

We did have a problem with a balcony once, with smoke blowing (it was a cigar, I believe).

As far as DH & I are concerned, the sooner they ban it the better.  (We're both asthmatic & smoke bothers us - we were just at a bar for dinner tonight, and I had to take a shower as soon as I got home to get the smell off me & out of my lungs.)  If you're a smoker, you'll probably be pretty okay with the smoking rules on Princess.

Durn it!  I just answered this one, and it didn't post!!!  I double checked it to, to be sure!!:flamin:

Smoking is allowed in all staterooms and on all balconies.  Smoking is allowed in some places in some bars.  Smoking is allowed outside on the pool decks on one side of the ship (starboard or port, don't remember which).

Smoking is NOT allowed in the dining room or buffet.  It is also not allowed on the other side of the pool decks.

The staterooms are usually smoke-free - DH & I haven't had a problem yet, and we're susceptible to the smell.  If there is a smell, the stewards have something to take care of it.

We have had a problem one time on the balcony, due to wind blowing (& the fact that it was a cigar, I think).

As far as DH & I are concerned, the sooner Princess bans it, the better.  (We are both asthmatic, and extremely susceptible to smoke.  We were at a bar for dinner tonight, in the non-smoking section, but it was a bar after all, and I had to shower when I got home because I was having problems breathing.)

If you're a smoker, you'll probably be fine with Princess' policy.

You can smoke in your cabin [as of the last time I cruised with themin '07]

You can smoke all you want on your balcony

You can smoke in the casino and in the cigar bar as well as the

outdoor bars.

You can smoke on the port side while by the swimming pool but not

on the starboard side.  They really don't advertise this very well, but that

has been standard on the several Princess cruises I've beenon.

All restaurants are non-smoking as well as the showrooms.

There is one bar called the Explorer's Lounge and I do recall they reserve a very

tiny area for smokers, but it's quite possible that that is non-smoking now.

Thanks Cathy & Liz!

I'm trying to talk one of our fellow CTTers into going with us on the Caribbean Princess 8/15, and this will be an important factor.

Cathy, it probably wasn't your computer. There's a problem affecting a lot of boards all over the country. I see it's still a problem today. I had one post yesterday that I sent twice before either showed up and another I watched. That one took 4 minutes to post. I hope they get this fixed soon.

Interesting - almost no ionformation on the Princess site about smoking. Some references to smoking areas around the ship. I thought I read after the fire they banned smoking on balconies. I could be wrong.

At least you got on the Princess web site. It was so slow for me this morning that I finally gave up! The policy on smoking seems to be extremely vague. Usually, one side (either port or starboard) is designated smoking and the other non-smoking on open decks. If I find anything more definite, I'll post it here.

On the dark side it would have been turned into a smoking thread. Everyone with an agenda would be beating their drum

We were aboard the Crown Princess in 8/06, after the fire, and smoking was still allowed. I looked over at the DS and through the last six pages of threads, and not a single mention of smoking.

From Princess.com just now:

  • Smoking is not allowed in the dining rooms, or any other food service area, or in the show lounges and theaters. Smoking is permitted in staterooms, stateroom balconies, and designated areas. As a courtesy to your fellow passengers, please refrain from smoking pipes and cigars in all public rooms.
