Has everything from a lawyer hollering, "We have a petition" to a yatch captain storming the bridge to tell the ship's captain how to navigate.   Some people just shouldn't be allowed to cruise.

Unhappy passengers rushed to Internet stations to tell the world. Some were “claiming they were on the verge of mutiny,” The Sunday Mail reported while the ship was still at sea.

That's the problem right there.  Bad weather @sea = unpredictable and often unusable internet!  They need to learn this "feature" and use it to their advantage.  Leaks of all kinds on ships are bad.  And that's all I have to say about that. ;)

Oh come on.... explain, ......this is CTT not CC. No one with quarter you here.
We need some "meaty" news here.
I'm old and fuddled in the mind, are you really talking about intenet use at sea, or are we reading between the lines??????

There were a few threads on the Princess board...people all pissed off they missed a bunch of ports due to a typhoon..same ole bitchin and moaning with some old codger finding a way to the bridge and demanding to speak to the captain about it! LMAO..it was pretty funny but just another case of a good story being blown out of proportion....

though a bunch of passnegers did try to refuse to leave the ship in China but as soon as the Captain told the Chinese authorities they "suddenly" started complying!

and if my memory serves me there was also a bunch of passengers shouting down the captain when he was trying to explain the problem in a public forum like the Captains cocktail party or some such thing...

Most of the people were all pissed that Princess didnt seem to have enough to do onboard when the port days were canceled and as we all know they do have activities pre planned for this situation but with like 3 or 4 port days missed they apparently weren't ready for that much sea time....at least in the passnegers opinions!

The main thing I got from it was that most likely most of these pax were not past crusiers but lots of people doing a "once in a lifetime" cruise to see specific Asian ports which most of which were missed so I can see where they might have started freaking out not having a clue prior to this cruise..

Ok... gotcha
Don't you just luv this ack ack ka dak stuff..... I've lived my whole life of it!!

My life has been a tutorial for MI 5 or is it 6 these days???
I completely understand KimDave, but what I don't understand are the people who give out their cabin numbers over the internet....... or worse still that one particular poster on CC that gave out her phone number.
Remember the night someone found out what her DH did for a living........ what a nut bar she was.

Geez, do you think there were any cheerleaders on that cruise??:big grin::big grin::big grin::big grin::cheer:more to come..... on CC at 11pm Buffalo time with Irv Winestein..... anyone remember him?

If I was in typhoon type weather..... I wouldn't be visiting a cocktail party, but I would be at an altar!! :vomit:

The last trip to Alaska had a memorable storm, where the Capt called a meeting post storm in the theatre. He explained the whole thing weather wise and ship wise. It was a smart proactive thing to do. It unruffled pissed off pax, weeded out the sh** disturbers,  made me respect him even more, and decreased any potential complaints. This guy and his crew were incharge.... bottom dollar.  Only a  few hundred attended, but enough to allow the rumour mill to flow the info downward.

now that you mention it I think this was at a gathering in the theater as well...not that it matters as the yelling and bitching back at the Captain was the pertainent portion...

one thing that was mentioned was the compisation from Princess did seem a little weak..I can't remember what it was and I know its not required but it is usually done regardless..

Sheila, I'm SURE if you ask BdJam on the Princess board he could give you the entire lowdown without any personal opinion interjected! :lmao1:

a better thought..unless the thread was yanked (My vote would be YES!) you could search the Princess board using mutiny as the search word and find the thread....

Frightened and uninformed people will go to great lengths to ensure their safety. If a large number of those passengers were first timers with no experience being in a typhoon, they were probably scared out of their minds.

I can see some form of compensation for missing several ports due to unexpected bad weather but a muntiny, except in extreme circumstances, is hardly the way to get across one's point.

Yes, the crew should have been more forthcoming with information, but anyone who has been in a storm knows that you have to leave the running of the ship in the hands of trained crewmembers. A yacht captain hardly compares to a cruise ship captain in the handling of a ship that size.

Yacht captain?  It does not matter who he is or what he does.  I don't know why that keeps getting brought up.  I see other OIC's make mistakes.  And likewise when I've been in charge the same is true!  We're only human.  (and learn by said mistakes!)

He's in charge, his ship bottom line.  It's a rule to live by and to die by.  There's a chain of command and he must follow his order and see to the safety of the souls onboard and the welfare of the ship plain and simple.

You'll get no argument from me Dave. My point is why would some guy who has a yacht think he can run a cruise ship? Crazy!

Fundamentals.  We're not necessarily talking about "running" or operations.  He probably had a GPS/Charter and noticed that the course may have not been what he would've chosen or the most efficient.  It's very possible.  However to even suggest otherwise is completely out of line.

For what it's worth "driving the ship" as often is said is not really the difficult part.  Matter of fact it's pie compared to dealing with people.  And we'll leave it at that. ;)

Speaking of pie where the hell are my lemon meringue pies dammit?

I make lemon pies, but I hate meringue.... but am learning the bachatta.... ya ok, a sick joke.....
I guess when you pay the bucks for an Asian cruise you expect to see the ports you preplanned and longed for, but ......... I would've been so terrified, that all my faith would have been laying in the Capt lap, he's the one trained.
I have no idea what goes on up on the bridge, but I would imagine that computer/weather date is analyzed constantly, and I would think that the upper command officers pow wow.
The storm in Alaska that we were in, the Capt said that he had to contact Florida for permission to change routes, calls towns etc, and that he had spoken a few times to Florida regarding our status. Me thinks, there are always others above the Capt assisting in decision making etc. But as Kim/Dave said, bottom line is Capt is ultimately in charge.
