Apologies if this has already been posted.

The information is hidden away in the FAQ section on http://www.ncl.com

Speaking to a UK travel agent today and they did not know about it.

They have been selling cruises with "tips included" so a lot of people are going to find they have a top up to pay once onboard and not be happy.

Could be another one of those NCL Webmaster whoops  Like the Jade moving to Europe year round the itineraries starting showing up before NCL made a formal announcement.

Another "left hand" knowing what the "right hand" is doing.

Most will not be phased too much by a $2.00 pppd increase - but then after the Jan/09 deadline someone is sure to post a new "nickle & diming" thread.

I'm wondering if the $12 pppd is being applied to children as well ??  Doesn't really clarify that point.

I do recall when boarding the Jade for the TA Feb 29th that most crew didn't know they were not returning to New York - and a few were not overly happy about it.

I am certain many surprised by the increase will be at the desk have the charge adjusted and having a heart attack over the $14-$20 pp

I think one of the major groups affected by this will be the crew themselves. How many of them will not get the extra tips that so many of us give?

Personally, the extra $2pppd is not a big deal, but I think NCL would be wise to maybe raise the fee at a $1.00 increment, every 12-24 months. How long has the service charge been $10.00?

Currently children are half of the adult rate.  I doubt that would change but that's just my opinion.

I got this announcement from my TA this week.  Everyone that is 3 or older will pay the 12.00 pp/pd fee.  Here is the quote from the announcement that I received.  I just got off a Carnival ship last week and they charged 10.00 pp/pd for adults and kids.

"Please be advised that Norwegian Cruise Line has announced a new service charge will take effect in 2009. Effective January 1, 2009, service charges will increase to $12 per guest/per day. These charges will be applicable to all guests ages three and over and for sailings departing on or after January 1, 2009. "

:popcorn:all set to sit back and watch the :monkey: and :flamin: on the ds.

That is a real increase for a family. Never understood why kids were hafe price except to give families a break. They create the same amount of work (or more in some cases).

2 kids for 7 days adds ~$100 to the onboard account.

Well I know that I will not be breaking this news to the fine folks on the DS :big grin:.

I guess that I am already used to it since we just paid 10.00 pp/pd for 8 days on Carnival for our 2 kids.  On Carnival thay put it on your account the first day and when I went to the TV to review my expenses on the first day and saw my account was already 320.00 I will admit it caught me be surprise.

I was thinking that it was just a matter of time for all to pay the same service charge.

Not to worry some lurker will copy, paste, and take credit for the info. Just like the Jade changes from the travel show.

Yikes! Between that and the fuel surcharge I've got a grand total of $560 for my family of 4:shock: Not to mention the base fare of the cruise I am looking at is hundreds more this year than last.

Not complaining, SG;) Just suffering from a temporary case of sticker shock.:holymoly:

Along with a generous tip to the kid's crew, we always tip above and beyond the normal service charge to make up for the kid's discount. I truly believe that the crew works really hard and deserves a fair wage. I HATE when people brag about removing the service charge from their tab:flamin:

Even with the increases, I still think cruises offer great value for the $$$.

It's going to get UGLY over there!

I'll bring the popcorn:popcorn:Who's got the beer:drink:

I know what you mean.  It does bring up the price. We also tip the Kids Crew as they have been great with our kids.

Since we are not staying in a suite on our Spirit, Boston to Bermuda cruise, I will not have the butler to tip so I have just found some cash there :big grin:
