We will be cruising on the Jade (12 day Med.)in Sept. I am looking for anyone who has also cruised in Europe and has been in a Penthouse with use of the Concierge and butlers.      With the sad value of the US dollar    :proud:against the Euro did you tip in US dollar or Euro?

If in Euro,  did you bring the Euro with you on the cruise, or purchase while in ports?

If in Dollar, did you tip more than  you would on a US based cruise because of the dollar value against the euro?

Thanks

That's a good question.

We tipped in U.S. At that time, the exchange rate was about $1.30.

While I've never done one of these cruises, let me take a little bit of guilt off of your shoulders by quoting NCL's European web site:

http://www.ncl.eu/freestyle/NCL_freestyle_dining.htm

US Dollar is the currency aboard all our NCL vessels – also on our sailings in Europe. For you, as a European guest, it is an absolute benefit as the exchange rate was never so advantageous.
Also, if I recall correctly, all of the items in the crew's own store on the Gem were priced in US dollars when they showed us the behind-the-scenes slide show of the crew's amenities, so doing a currency conversion might actually be a hassle for them unless they're going on a shore leave.....

Thanks :big grin:       Makes sense to have the crew shops etc in USD.   Especially since most ships change itineraries with the seasons.

Much easier to take USD along:banana:

I think either is fine. Keep in mind the Jade is in Europe year round. Those folks like us need some Euros when they get off the ship. This saves them the cost to exchange dollars. If you have extra Euros no reason the could not be used for some or all of the tip.

I certainly would not convert dollars to Euros to tip. I did include one of my extra 20 Euro notes as part of my tip.

Good idea Shoreguy !!!    We are taking a few Euro with us that we had left from a vacation to Italy last summer.     Maybe we will reserve a few of them for the tips.

I did both, depending on what I had on hand at the time. Usually $1-2 or 1 Euro - it was usually for breakfast delivery. They (Princess crew) seemed to be happy to get either.
