A public transportation strike on the island of Malta lasted 4 days and was getting ugly.  What started out as a normal strike has turned violent on the island.  The Gem was there on day 2.  Public transportation workers have tried to block the private drivers and excursion buses from doing their jobs.  http://www.independent.com.mt/news.asp?newsitemid=72321

The strike was just called off as the two sides agreed, public transportation resumes tomorrow.

Yikes, would have been an interesting day to have been in port!  Fortunately, it is a short walk to the St Johns cathedral and the main town from the port.
