Hope someone can answer this question -- a friend has asked if I would buy a cruise rewards certificate for them while I'm on the Dream next week -- is this possible??

Outlook hazy :big grin: Not sure how that would be possible. The certificate is charged to the account on the voucher and the $100 OBC issued at time of purchase to the same account. It is all processed online pulling up your detail from the booking onboard.

"You can try but at a minimum the OBC would hit your account. Not sure how they would tie the future deposit credit to someone else. Let's face it it is intended to replace onboard booking and if you are not onboard then I would thing you are not entitled to the discount.

Yes, I understand the certificate would be charged to our on-board account, and that the resulting $100 OBC would also be on our account -- but can I put it in someone else's name?  She will give me her latitudes information.  And if I can't put it in her name, are they transferable?  In other words, could I buy it (in my name and latitudes #) and "give" it to someone else?

You can try. I think the the chances are little or none. There is no real certificate it is an entry in your NCL account. The document I got does not state it can not be transferred but it is very clear  that it can only be used for YOUR next reservation.

I think the fact it is intended for passengers onboard a NCL Ship will prevent them from putting it in someone elses name

Good Luck

Darn... oh well, I'll probably still ask when I'm on board, but I think you've all told me what the answer will be... and it does make sense.

Thanks!

I bought two rewards when I was on  the Dawn.  One was intended for me and the other for my brother.  My brother booked a cruise and told the TA he was using my cruise rewards.  I had to call the TA and give my lattitudes info and they transfered the reward to him.

I was really ticked off about the cruise rewards on Dawn last month. I waited until the last night of the cruise and called the reception desk and they said the Cruise Rewards dept was now closed and that I could not buy a Cruise Reward certificate. I'd be pushing that deal until the last minute, but they did not. I'm not sure why it wasn't promoted that well on Dawn...perhaps cause we were in Bermuda for 3 days, but I really wanted to take advantage of it. I guess lesson to be learned is that if you plan on doing this...go ahead and knock it out the first chance you hear of it.

On our Spirit cruise in May they were actually selling the point that you can buy a Cruise Reward for someone else as a gift.  You call after it is purchased and have it transfered into someone elses name.  They also said that if the person doesn't use it or want it (imagine!!) you can get it transferred back.  We spent some time talking with the Cruise Consultant because she was from Canada as well and she confirmed that we could buy one as a gift no problem.

Awesome -- that's exactly how I'm going to pitch it to the on-board cruise consultant -- as a gift for someone else.

No worries!!

I'm fairly certain they said it was transferable (Jade) so do let us know when you return how you made out with it.   Thanks

I am surprised. I should have purchased the max of 4 onboard. I would have gotten $400 OBC and then sell them for $250 so others can hold cabins for less and make another $400. ;)

Heck I could do 1 night cruises on the Spirit all fall and cruise for free. :roflmao:

That's what I was told on the Dawn last April.  But on the Gem this April it was "no"

So possibly they've changed or removed the "transferable" Which if so, is really not too swift of an idea - could bring in new cruisers and lets face it it's only a deposit, not like it would effect the final price of the cruise itself.

I may have some of the paperwork from the cruise rewards from last year. We bought 2. I think that I read that it was transferrable for a processing fee.

I may be repeating what others have said but I did find the info that I received from NCL:

NCL Freestyle Cruise Rewards Terms and Conditions

3. Freestyle Rewards Deposits are transferable for a 50.00 fee.

That's what I was told on the Dawn but on the Gem this past April they told me that the person had to be on the ship.  I wanted to puchase one in DH's name and they wouldn't let me.

ps.  I may be joining you on the Spirit on 8/07/09.  I'm waiting for my TA to confirm cabin prices.

Funny, I have mine from 7/10 in front of me. Nothing in the T&Cs about a transfer fee. 11 simple terms and conditions on the back. No mention of them not being transferable.

Number 3 on this document - a maximum of 4 may be purchased per person:confused:

Can the $100 onboard credit you receive be used for the $10 pp daily service fee, tip pool? If up to 4 cruise rewards can be purchased per cruise, then with my back to back, I could buy 8 :big grin:

Not clear but normally NCL OBCs can not .

What it says "Use your on-board credit to pamper yourself in the spa, spurge in the Gift Shops or take a Shore Excursion that you have always dreamed of. "

That is great news about 8-7-09.  My parents, sis, B-in-law, brother, sis-in-law, their 3 kids, and my family will all be on.  There may also be a few others who frequent these boards as well but they are still looking at their schedules.

So I go into the vault and pull the documentation from 10/2007

T&Cs

4. ........Rewards Deposits are transferable for a $50.00  fee.

So the terms have changed.

The good news for all is that Welove2cruise2 is getting it for me, so everyone will be able to follow the procedure straight through to make sure there are no glitches in my plan.

I don't know how I forgot to get one on my last cruise.  :confused:Maybe it was all the excitement of meeting MACOP!
