Sounds like the dog saw the suitcase and didn't want to go to doggie prison. :help:

Enjoy the Jade everyone - it's a great ship and a fantastic itinerary.  Safe journeys and happy sailings.

Great news about the upsells - Don't you love being spoiled. :capt:

OK OK - don't get your panties in tha knot :big grin:

11:50 PM June 29th – Soon to be 1:00 June 30th as we lose and hour tonight.

Where do I start -  first the good news no dust on top of the fridge not shoes under the bed Jade disaster avoided.

I should have pulled together a post sooner too much to share and not enough sober hours. Now where did I leave off. Ah yes the airport Friday night Newark the flying rush hour. The god news no real line to check in, security was not too bad, grabbed a drink, got to the gate, boarded on time and then sat there with the door closed at the gate for 90 minutes, another 30 waiting in line to take off, and I was on my way to London in my row 7 exit row aisle seat. As it turns out the seat from hell. I was kicked, stepped on, hit in the head with more butts and elbows then there are stars in the sky all night long. At one point some guy came along and lay down to sleep on the floor in front of me. With the service cart parked across from me my head became a turnstile for all those headed for the restroom.

The good news I got to London having head a least one hour of sleep about 8:15 am less then 2 hours late. I got in the queue for passport control and there was my son 3 rows ahead since his flight got in on time. Grabbed the bags took the tram to the south terminal to catch the train to Southampton. Just to keep the record perfect we missed the 9:09 train by 2 minutes and had an hour wait for the next train. Once onboard a very pleasant 2 hour ride through the English country side. A quick 4 pound cab ride to the Jurys Inn. Things get foggy from there on.

Before we had a chance to check in we ran into clan Calmac and the first imperial pint of Guinness was served. Every hour or so another member of the roll call arrived and the pints came coming. No sleep and many pints later it was off to dinner at place called Buon Gusto – Italian, walking distance from the hotel. I think the food ok and the beer was cold.  Finally back to the hotel and some sleep by 10 pm but not before one last pint with a gang of great people most headed for the Jade in the morning.

Nexk up – to the slip, embarkation, day one, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Still work to do onboard.

Not too many typos last night……:shoot me:

3 pm Monday – 59 F seas 1-4 feet.

Enjoying a cup of espresso (now that that the machine is working) Busy morning M&G, a little bite to eat, wine tasting and lunch at Cagney’s.  More on today later as we return to  yesteryear.

The Jurys Inn was fine for precruise 69 pounds internet special room only. Full English breakfast was another 9 pounds. Room was big enough with a Queen and a Twin. No shampoo or other items. Just some Dove all in one milky stuff in wall mounted dispensers. Hair dryer was bolted into one of the desk draws.

The Jade leaves from the Western Docks a 6 pound cab ride from the hotel. Quick and easy drop off. Porters tok everything from the cab and off to the entrance around 10:30. They had not opened the doors to enter the security and check in area yet. As we found out later with people still at the bars at 7 am from the prior 2 night cruise it was difficult to get them off the ship. At 10:30 when they are normally done there were still 900 passengers still onboard.  We were perhaps 25th in line until about 5 minutes before the doors opened at 11 am when the usual line jumpers showed up and formed there own line next to the existing one. A couple of folks said something to them and one of the jumpers was so nice to say go f yourself in voice that could be heard in the whole hall to anyone that tried to explain in a nice way what a bunch of  A holes they were. Off to a smooth start with the usual few ugly passengers you find on any ship.

Next up security. Not to worry if you want to bring your own beer wine or booze they could care less. They work for the pier and could less what NCL’s policy is. Now the 60 oz beer cans a couple of the passengers had did result in them having to open their bags just to make sure what they were. Closed up the bags and off to check in. With only two lines open and the beer delay the line started to back up quickly. They did open more later but the damage was done.

Check in was a breeze. Clearly marked lines and we were the first in the Penthouse line with 5 agents working just that line. Those not in the VIP line were given color coded boarding cards. (like people were going to wait for their color to be called). Ruth the Concierge came out gave us our room keys and walked us over to seating in the main waiting area ( No VIP area) and told us she would be back to get us for boarding. Around noon she was good to here word and she gathered up the mob. By this time the hall was packed and the path to the boarding doors jammed with passenger standing waiting to board. Not to worry Ruthie just took control, cleared a path and we were inside the doors and out of the madding crowd. Inside the doors she sorted us by location and sent us off in small groups with a butler to our cabins. The welcome aboard bubbly was waiting after we swiped our cards onboard.  More bubbly in the courtyard all afternoon.

Off the cabin. Just like being on the Gem just more purple and less green. Meet what I thought was our cabin steward. And explained how we wanted things setup. No need to close up the sofa bed in the second bedroom but please add a foam topper. Then it was off to Cagney’s lunch for 12.

Most of lunch was spent trying to figure out how and what  to do for diner. With Petra aand Joerge from Germany somehow watching the football match (7:30-9:30) was a must part of the evening. Scouted all the venues  and decided on the big screen in the lobby viewed from the Tapas Bar deck 8. There is bar area facing the atrium perfect view. Decided to meet there around 6 match the match and catch a little tex mex food .

Back to the courtyard, a couple of cocktails, and off the muster drill at 3 pm. At 3:30 it was time to sign up for our casino cards. If you sign up then you get a pretty good coupon book, free ace for blackjack, $20 of slot play for $10 etc. The best part if you are playing with your card free drinks – domestic beer, well pour. The casino and the central bar are huge. Now the down side. Almost all tables are blackjack. The only roulette table is euros only. No Let it Ride and only one $10 3 card poker table. 1 crap table.  Jumping ahead I did  play a little 3 card around 11 pm and I was the only one at the table. In fact I was one of maybe 6 people at any of the tables. Penny slots were busy. The casino was not very good to me.

Time for a shower and off to dinner. Well not exactly. Only 7 of the 8 shower heads were working. The giant overhead rain shower just dripped cold water all day with the shower on or off. As I am typing this the electrician just stop by to fix it.”This is not a light problem.” I guess the plumbing guy will stop by later.

In talking with the staff they have been working hard to get the Jade back up to NCL standards. It is clear in it’s life as the POHI it never got the the quality of care to the details that the NCL ships do. Enough said. It is now in good shape but a little more to go until it is in the same shape as her older sister the Jewel.

Dinner was an adventure. Not only did Germany lose but getting food was a bit more difficult then it should have been, Around halftime Colleen the Group Services Manager onboard stopped by to chat. We had all cruised with her before on the Pearl and Gem. She is wonderful.

I decided to walk over and ask to have a waiter take an order for dinner. Somebody forgot to tell the management in the TEX Mex restaurant what S.T.Y.L.E stands for. All I heard was no. Tapis only in those seats. No matter how simple I  made the request  the answer was no. I could have called Julian Brakenbury the HD who had just called me on the way to the game but last time I did that and posted it a meam moderator gave me a hard time on a board for getting people in trouble. Colleen was still at the table. She called Tony the F&B dir. On her way out. 3 minutes later the manager was on his way over with the menus I asked for in the first place. It should not have to that difficult. The place was not even busy. Shortly after Tony stopped by and all was well.

After that is was off to the Star Bar, Casino, Medusa Lounge, Spinnakers , impaired posting, and to bed at 2 am.

Ok back to the present – How is this for an afternoon line up – Wine tasting, Martini Clinic, Whiskey and Bourbon tasting, Latitudes cocktail party, and captains cocktail party all within 6 hours

I am done for the day – time to get out of this cabin.

I did forget the best part of last night. We craweled back to the cabin after midnight and all those detailed instructions on the bed were clearly to the wrong person. Just the tiny top bunk was made up. At 6’3” and only 2.5 feet of clearance geting in that bunk as a challenge for my son. All fixed today in fact a full memory foam mattress on top of the sofa bed. Still waiting for the plumber

Don’t let the little things make you think we are having anything other then a  blast.

:roflmao:....yep, that really got that blog off topic for a few days. You only have to worry about Bama on these boards and he has been two weeks from vacation for the past year so he shouldn't be a problem.

Sounds like good fun so far.

A TRUE SEASONED TRAVELER - BRAVO

With all the glitches you could have been screaming murder or using your "special" phone. But you just took it all in stride and had another drink.

I hate to sound like a groopie, which I am NOT, but many many people should take example on how to roll with the punches and using the above quoted motto !

Being on a ship is the IMPORTANT thing - nothing else matters

Bravo Monsieur Shoreguy !

NEWS FLASH

London England-    It has been reported the Shoreguy the infamous Cruise Critic and Cruisetraveltalk NCL expert has fallen off his owner’s suite balcony into the north Atlantic.  Witnesses state that after back to back to back-to-back cocktail parties he was bogging and his laptop fell into the water.  He jumped in immediately after it.  His last words were “Do you think its OK to wear jeans to the dinning room tonight?    Just after landing in the icy cold waters he was quoted as saying “Tell Laura Sterling that I have always loved her!”

After an exhaustive search and rescue attempt it has been called off.  The only thing recovered was a martini glass.  :wine:

Bama...after I collected myself from choking, with absolute delight I might add, on my after dinner hot sweet tea, I pondered SG's last words.  I wonder if perhaps those immortal last utterances could have really been meant for...HOST CECILIA????  Oh what memories SG brought back when he ever so gently brought up the dreaded Pearl blog...and her utter, utter, UTTER displeasure with Jim calling out the unacceptable attitude of the staff person in Bliss?  Let that forever be known as the Boston Tea Party for the True Norweenies.  :drink:Off with their heads...let them eat cake...put up your dukes....truth, justice and the American way!!!!:proud::proud::proud:

What the hell was I talking about?

Anyhoo...excellent wonderful delightful perfect charming post.  Oh wouldn't it be nice for someone to use one of their dark side nom de plume's and post it...ah fahghedabowdit...it isn't worth the effort.  The thrill, as the song so eloquently memorialized, is gone...or is it?

Ciao,

WaWW

1:00 am July 1 – bits and pieces

Still not totally dark out and the first orange of sunrise is off the bow. Casino very good to me tonight

Dinner was proof two groups same cruise can have  totally different experience same dining room same menu. I steeped out after soup for a smoke and ran into a few folks from the other roll call. They had just finished dinner and warned me to get out the food was terrible. The kicked it back 3 times and were far from happy. I asked if they had the lobster – nope. How about the beef Wellington –nope. As it turns out they ordered of the available everyday menu and thought it was plain – small steak, salmon etc . Never thought about ordering lobster. WTF.

The fact is to a person at the table the best meal we have had on an NCL ship in years. Nice size rock lobster tails (no problem ordering 2 to start) Beef Wellington was very good. Excellent beef and cooked correctly for everyone. The pumpkin ginger crab bisque sounded bad tasted great. Asparagus and bay scallop first course was perfect. Service was impeccable. You don’t think the fact we were escorted from the captains VIP reception  into the restaurant thru the back door to a waiting table by the F&B director had anything to do with the service,,LOL

So there you go two reviews and two views.

Captains Reception – my stalker is back. For those of you that have followed my blogs will remember the TA from Hell. Well she is back.. While waiting in the line she showed up and cut in front of us and said you will get me in .!!!!! They then proceeded to hold up the whole line as the blabbed with every officer in the receiving line endlessly. Passed behind her and headed for the bar waving to the staff as I passed and they laughed. 5 minutes later she steeps in the middle of our group hands me her drink and says hold this. WTF  Reaches in her bag pulls out a camera and says you take good pictures come over here and take a picture of me and one of the officers. Wait till she sees the picture with the zoom in tight and the heads cut off.

Julie is the activities director. No more CD out in front with 2.0 . It is funny was responsible in a small way for me starting to cruise multiple times on NCL. The first ime back on NCL in 2003 she was  the assistant CD and called bingo. I won $4000 and used it to book two more cruises and the run was on.

Ok it is a little darker but still orange off the bow. Spa appointment in the morning and then at noon into AALESUND and boat ride into the first fjord of the trip at 12:30.

The Mets game is starting on ESPN2

Tomorrow folks.

:wine:

You sure the "TA from hell" didn't toss him over while cutting in line?
