OK I was wrong. He is back after a long run, a long swim in pond scum, but tonight he added a roll in the mud. He is hosed off and spending his last night before doggie prison on the deck.

Off to get out of my suit and  pack:big grin:

So I am in fact mostly packed ahead of plan.

I did say I would share how the upsell fairy worked this cruise. This is by no means the way all cruises are worked. The first upsell offers went out Friday the 13th. They were for A3,A4,and AB and sent to AF and above in the order of their booking dates. When I talked to the Revenue Enhancement Coordinator she was trying to figure out how I had a booking date of July 2006 long before the Jade was even an idea. As some might recall I had to cancel my Feb Gem cruise that I booked the first week it was available. NCL was kind enough to not charge me a cancellation fee and transferred my booking to this cruise.

All those cabins were gone in a matter of 2 hours. She did say I could share her contact information with the folks cruising with me and I shared their names with her. Thus in part the reason for so many CTT members getting upsells. Membership has it's privileges :big grin:

Anyway I have a lot to get done in the morning. This time Saturday morning I should be here.

He sounds like a smart dog, who knows when the suitcases come down that it means he's going to doggie prison. He wants one last moment of freedom before being sentenced.

That's the first sensible explanation I've heard of how the upsell fairy works, and it would be good (and fair) if it always worked that way.

Kind of like "Pity the Procrastinator".  Now maybe there's a reason to.

So this should be my last update until I get to Southampton.

No I am not finished packing.

Adventures come in strage ways on every cruise

I hit a major snag this morning. I took the dog to the kennel this morning and gave them is vaccination records. They said sorry we can not take him. It seems I needed to get one of the vaccinations more then 2 weeks prior and it has only been 10 days.

So does anyone think a kennel you would put your dog in would have any space of the 4th holiday week. I made some calls from there and no luck. I even tried the vet to board him no luck.

This called for desperate measures. I can be a real A hole when I have to.  I had one more shot. The owner was in the lobby with four older ladies who were touring the kennel to find a place for their precious little dog. He was doing his best sales pitch.

I picked up the phone and pretended to call the vet back. This is shoreguy I need to bring Barney in to have him put to sleep. My jaw quivering hand over my eyes (fake tears would have been over the top). The ladies to the rescue - "your not going to make that man put his dog to sleep" Well Barney will be spending my vacation in the owners house and not stuck in the kennel. Sort of like an upsell.

The plan from here out is smooth sailing. One more conference call at noon. Final packing and out the door in 3.5 hours.

It is now Friday 6/27/2008 at 11:42:59 AM EDT

Yeah, you're right that it's good and fair but that would mean I probably won't get the call for my August cruise  :(

You never know. It all depends on how the penthouses are selling. They got to insidecabin and he waited to book just before final trying to hit  the best fare.

I'm hoping. As of late, there are 4 AA's, 4 AB's for the 4 day sailing and for the second leg (the 3 day), there are 3 AA's, 6 AB's and 3 AC's. We are about 7 weeks from sail date.

It was so close to final I just paid in full anyway. In the UK we lose deposits so tend to only book when we know we will be going, even booking US we tend to wait old habits.

Who knows how they got to me, cabin location, next on the list in order of booking or a good word from Shoreguy. One thing with the european cruises there will be a lot bookings through the local offices and they will NOT be on the list so with these trips being 50%+ non US bookings the odds improve over a US sailing.

Obviously we only know our offers and  observed cabin movements.

So we had Friday13(two weeks to go), for the first batch of  top penthouse/villas which sold out in minutes.

My offer the following Friday included the minor suites, of those the AC's took ages(days to go). nothing much changed above AF during that week.

One AA->GV on Monday triggered the next ofer to someone that booked before me.

1 GV still open we sail Sun and the upsell office is closed weekends, open 8am-7pm weekdays.

Plenty of action below AF to fill upwards and the AFs and below went on sale in the UK to help shift the stock(with no flyers).

What was interesting to me was that it looks like the minor suites AE/AD/AC were not offered the AB/A3/A4 on that first round allthough some of the moves were from unknown locations most were from the AF's so for this cruise the AF were the sweet spot.

The following cruise 13July there has been nothing open above AF for weeks so only cancellations  to work with.

Then I had to leave for a business trip to the middle of nowwhere. I had to instruct Joerg to all the details especially how to check cabins everyday and what to do if the upsell fairy would send us an email.

Monday night during my conference I got a SMS: Get on the phone immediately. So I had to sneak out and by the time I reached Joerg we were already booked in an AA.

Finally the upsell fairy found the Germans.

Bama - I know it is important to you so I will share I am done packing. I have what have and the reason they invented credit cards is for the things I might have forgotten.

Time to power this PC down. Switch to Blackberry and had to London. My driver is here  25 minutes early. CO.Flight 114 shows ontime. .

Cheers

I wasn't implying that shoreguy is black but rather that he was similar  to the character of Axel Foley in the movies who was forever scamming his way out of tight situations.
