| Hey there musicgirl...good to see you over here too. Lot's of good people with excellent info on ncl. I don't think we're going to buy an upgrade....now as you well know...I'll buy an upsell in a second for the right price...always ;-) I just can't justify $1000 to get an additional 45-50 sq ft on our balcony right now. We'll see as we close in on the date!!

| I "believe" there are some A/V inputs on the TVs in the AE & AD penthouses. They have these really nice Bang & Olufsen TVs w/ integrated DVD players in them. We watched a few movies late night this past week and really enjoyed them. They look very strange in the photos, but they're really quite good TVs. Ask your butler to show you how to use the remote because it looks like it's straight off the Star Trek enterprise! I'll post some pics in the next day or so...we just arrived back to Florida from NYC about 1 hour ago.

Me too. We've booked an AE on deck 9 for our Sept. Canada/NE cruise. I'd be interested in hearing about the cabin, your experience with the butler/concierge, etc.

WOW! Talk about getting called out I've been slacking sooooo hard on everything to do with following up on this cruise. I will interject this in my defense...this is our first cruise since we had our two kids last year, so it's a whole other ball game now. You would think that since I'm a stay at home Dad that I'd have more time on my hands, but the truth is the little free time I do get during the day I usually surf the boards and look for our next land or sea vacation.
NOW...to answer your question. They had not changed out the old coffee pots on the Dawn yet. I asked Hugo (Hotel Director) about this at the M&G and he said that they'd been delivered, but in the incorrect voltage. They were sent back to Italy and the order was in the process of being sent back over...once that was done, then they would have to schedule a procedure to swap them all out. They may or may not have them in the rooms now. I was disappointed because I use a Senseo coffee machine at home and would have loved to had fresh pod coffee at my fingertips, but that's what the butler is there for! I still had fresh coffee when I wanted it...thanks Ravi!!
Now the pictures I'm uploading right now, so I'll be back with a link I did find a couple of pictures with the Star Trek TV & one with the remote....stand by.

Ok...round one of the pics is now available. You'll see some pics of the TV, remote and even the new 2.0 enhancements like the pillow menu and such :) Also, I tried to capture some of the things I could never find like, what that wrap around balcony looks like that you can't go through and looking straight up at deck 10 & 11 from the aft balcony.
Anyways, here's the link: http://picasaweb.google.com/jeffcantrell/NCLDawnAEAftPenthouse9732

| Thanks so much for sharing your great pictures. They have increased my anticipation for our upcoming cruise as we will be in the AD just above your room in about 6 weeks. I am so looking forward to the wonderful aft views! In your pictures, you had a photo of the info on the priority reservation hotline. Does this mean that the concierge no longer makes your dining reservations for you? Can you still give the concierge your requests for dining for the week? Any other helpful tips about being in a suite on the Dawn would be greatly appreciated!

No problemo! My pleasure to post them...even though it's taken so long You can still utilize the concierge. I was just snapping pics of all the junk in the room. We gave Anka a list with all our reservations when we checked in at the pier. She was sitting at a table next to VIP check in and since we already knew which nights we wanted Cagney's & Le Bistro. I even requested window seats at the Venetian on the nights we planned to eat there. If you have some of those NCL coupons, then you'll want to make sure you eat at Cagney's the first night cause you get the best value on the buy on get one deal (just a suggestion). Some other tips...order lots of pillows! They are GREAT! The new bed is great. Also...the best tip I can repeat is go to Cagney's for Breakfast & Lunch...it's the BEST on the ship and it's free!!! Ask any questions you have...I've gotta go change a diaper :-)

Thanks for the speedy response. What a great idea about requesting a table by the window in the Venetian. I just added it to my dining requests list. I like to plan ahead, what can I say . I do have a coupon book - we are planning on doing Teppanyaki the first night as my son's girlfriend wants to do Cagney's on her birthday which will be later in the cruise. Saw you had a bottle of champagne - did you do the Romance package? After reading about it, I think it sounds like a good deal.

| Oh thanks for reminding me! Here's another tip for you. Yes, to answer your question we did the romance package, plus you get a bottle for being in a Penthouse. The champagne is total crap...sorry to offend, but it's just not very tasty. I asked the butler to swap it out for some wine instead. They gave me a $22 credit towards whatever I wanted to buy. I ended up with a couple of bottles of excellent Chianti for about $30 more. WELL WORTH IT!!!! We carried them into the restaurants and they opened them for us...no questions asked. I also brought a few bottles with me on the ship (no one ever asked for the corkage fee...not when we embarked or at the restaurant) we carried these into various restaurants again...no questions asked. This won't always be the case, but if you look like you know what you're doing people will rarely ask any questions.

| Should I post some picture of the night at Dazzles when I stripped down to my undershirt and put my tie on my head? Yes....that was my super-drunk night on the ship...the one where I was "that drunk guy". The next morning was not pretty...ouch.

I hope they have the new Coffee machines when we sail in a few weeks.
We will be in an AD same as the AE we are getting very excited!
How was it being Aft? Was it a loooooooooooong walk to everything like the Casino?
And how was the ride back there?

Yes...oh yes...stay at home dad is the hardest (and most rewarding) job I've ever had. I've got a 2 1/2 year old and 8 month old, so things stay very interesting around here. We adopted our boy in May 2007 from Guatemala and my wife gave birth to our little girl in November 2007. Needless to say it was a busy year!
Now on to the cruise talk...
I was sending Hugo some pictures tonight, so I'll ask him if the coffee makers have been replaced...hopefully for you they will be. You can see in our pics that we just put ours away because we were never going to use it. It just made for more room for all the bottles of liquor!
Good choice in the AD...you're going to love the HUGE balcony. AE on deck 9 was fine, but it's HUGE up there on deck 10. You're going to love it.
The view? Anyone will tell you it's the best view on the ship. I don't know if I'll be able to take a balcony on the side again. Everything seems to move so slow when you're looking off the aft. The first night at sea, I actually slept on the balcony for a few hours because the white noise was just to die for. We hardly ever kept our door closed...how can you with that view?!!
The walk is not bad at all. You'll learn that the best way to the top of the ship is to go to mid ship, then head up. If you're just going up a deck or two...take the aft elevators as they're not nearly as busy. When I was a bit tipsy one or two times I did walk all the way forward and then have to turn around and walk all the way back. At those times...yes it was a long walk. You spend most of that time beating yourself up over going the wrong way...that's what makes it so long :) Just look at the signs and make sure you're headed towards your cabin.
The ride is a smooth as silk. With these new pod systems they use in the back, there isn't hardly any vibration at all...no more than any other part of the ship really. If you've been on the aft of the Spirit and some other ships with propellors, then you know there can be a whole lotta shaking going on back there...not the case on the Dawn.
ENJOY IT!!! Hope you get Ravi...he was great. Our concierge, Anca is already off on vacation and I've not kept up with who replaced her. Make reservations early...ask the butler how to use the remote control for the tv...and enjoy that view!! It's the best...

Yes, thanks very much for the pics, and the tip on making reservations. We'll have our list ready when we check in. We sail 9/21 and I'm hoping they have the new coffee machines in by then. If not, oh well.
Did you have any meals served in your cabin?
I had to print out the pillow menu for my wife. Yet another decision.

From looking at the info on the old "seaweb" site of NCL, here's what I found out about the size of the AD's & AE's (room & balcony) on the Dawn:
[size=Dawn]
[size=AD 10726 & 10226 ]288’ cabin/93’ balcony
[size=AD 10728 & 10228 ]290’ cabin/123’ balcony
[size= ]
[size=AE 8670, 8672, 8172 & 8170 ]290’ cabin/78’ balcony
[size=AE 9732 & 9232 ] 291’ cabin/70’ balcony
[size=AE 9736 & 9236 ] 291’ cabin/ 74’ balcony

We had breakfast served in our suite on some mornings when we really needed to get out and go quickly. Prior to 2.0, we always had breakfast in our room, but now VIP breakfast in Cagney's...it's not nearly as necessary. We found Cagney's to be very quiet and a nice change from eating in our cabin. The food is outstanding, service is top notch and conciege & shorex team are available to chat with you throughout....plus if you've not seen your butler he will likely come say good morning at breakfast. We did have the butler bring us a cheese/fruit tray one day for one of the cocktail parties we had though.
As for the pillows, I think I ordered two of three different kinds and had them take all the feather ones away due to my allergies. The memory foam one is quite nice, but I do wish they offered a body pillow too :)

You didn't happen to notice if Cagney's was open for lunch on embarkation day, did you? I seem to recall seeing on the DS that it was on some ships. I know the Venetian is open, even though they try to steer you to the buffet.
