FYI It is confirmed that the Oosterdam is in drydock for 21 days Apr 4-23.
There is a 24 day Med sailing immediately following dry dock.

They must be planning a major overhaul. Any word on what they'll be doing to the ship?

No... and no one is talking. Guess I'm not talking to the right people.
Well I'm this close to giving HAL a go.
I'm nervous with this ship though, but after drydock it should be up to snuff????
Date and itinary are my deciding points....
Mike has scared me about all those empty rooms with no furniture and no human species............

They HAVE furniture...nice big comfy looking chairs made for reading...BUT there were so many of them most were empty all the time...it looked like they expected 1000 people per cruise to just sit in these chairs all day and read....and maybe on other cruises they did! LOL

We did have a good cruise though..if you can snag one of those aft balconies do it...the balconies are MASSIVE! And on HAL you can order from the menu anytime for room service..eggs bennie every morning on the balcony is SWEET!

I still can't find the preorder booze list..... everything but liquor.... Will have to call...... again.........Looking at a verandah VF VE or a superior verandah. Big difference in prices tho!
They want $450. pp per night for cruise hotel, and all the hotels they use are wait listed. Transfers $184.pp They marked up the return air by $380pp for the same flight that I was quoted by the airline direct. Guess everyone wants to make a buck where ever.....
And here's a bonus...... Ta Da... HERE'S TO THE T.A.'s God Bless Them!
My TA got the cruise for a much cheaper quote than HAL gave me.

I think I found a website that runs worse the NCL. Anyway if you can get in they have deckplans before and after drydock.

Maybe these will work

Before

After

If you can find the differences you are better then me

I haven't done HAL since 05 when we went to South America, but it was easy to preorder booze, we preordered a bottle of Gin (Bombay Blue Sapphire) and a Bottle of Vodka (Stoly) they gave us a couple of cans of tonic, my problem was I couldn't find lime to save my life and lemon just ruins a G&T.

I would not hesitate to book HAL again, but I wouldn't not book that 24 day sailing... number one wrong time of the year, and I like to give them a chance to work out any kinks, cause they tend to have a lot of new crew after a long drydock.

Visiting the TA this week to pick a cabin, would really like an SS.
JC you're making me nervous booking this cruise. Just read you know where, that they keep crew on to help with the drydock and it's a horrible job.??
Then there was a huge thread about what they do, and it does sound pretty major. Esp if reconfiguring some cabins.
I wonder how many staff leave? We aren't doing the full 24 days.... we're looking at the last leg of the 24d. Do you think they'd have kinks worked out in the first 12???? Should I be taking Macop with me instead of Pearl???
Thanks Jim for those links, must print them out incase TA doesn't have an up to date deck plan.
Yes, their web site has improved, but still pretty nasty. I don't like NCL's either.
All that moolah, you would think........

and "walking the plank" comment, or the walk of shame! Very embarassing, but I would've been terrified, how the heck did they climb the rope ladder with old shoulders????

That would have been tough especially since the ship never stopped. They were moving the entire time. Althooooough, I think I'd rather climb that ladder than get left behind in a foreign port.

Becky, ask the next guy that gets back to the ship late. We don't want it to be a personal experience. :big grin:

Just read this on another site.....
The Oosterdam Lovers are delighted..... HAL is moving her back to the west coast after the European season. I think part of the decision is due to the better market.... airfares are killing the cruise lines????
They are all very happy..... This is reassuring, to see people have favorites of this ship.
And the drydock is on schedule........ (fingers crossed)
Show me the MONey OOOOOsterdam.... I am getting excited!! Gonna be a long winter
