We liked it. Loved that corner aft cabin but we had some crappy cool weather that made using it hard. The ship itself was a little Carnival like to me with it being dark. Food and service was good. Love the attention to detail that one gets on a ship that only carries around 2000 passengers. Would do HAL again though.

I think that I could live in San Diego. People very freindly and we really liked what we saw of the area.

We love San Diego too and could retire there if only if was as inexpensive to live as it was when I lived there in the 80's:flamin:

I havent done Carnival but I thought they were all bright and wild with all the crazy color patterns on their ships??

Guess I should have stated that the ship reminded me more of the Spirit class ships. They have a dark decor throughout the ship. Love the layout though.

Mike, where the heck can I preorder liquor? Is this the bar set up posters talk about?
Breakfast menu??? Is it the boring old continental or full breakfast? What about other meals?
It's going into drydock Apr 09, do you follow any threads about this? Is it still on target?
Ok, the biggy...... which room and what area of ship do you suggest?
Yes, I reread your review.
You still prefer X ??
Trying to decide between HAL or X.
Same cruise except HAL offers Venice which we haven't seen. Celebrity offers the Solstice...... Hmmm this is a hard one.

Don't know about preordering liquor...

Breakfast menu oustanding...food overall good..about the same as Princess I thought but not as good as X

Don't follow threads on Oosterdam any longer..

We had our first aft cabin and it was GREAT..HUGE balcony with 2 chairs and a table and 2 full lounge chairs with room to spare...

And yes I still prefer X....HAL was great (all cruises are great in my opinion) but X is still my fav...I actually prefer Princess a tad bit over HAL but no regrets and would sail HAL again if it worked out...

One thing about HAL that was strange...on Oosterdam anyway..LOTS of very nice but empty rooms all over the ship...it was like they expect 400 little old ladies to need a nice quiet place to sit and read.just nice rooms with nice furnishings in them but nothing else..strange...

The cooking demonstrations are great..the free ones are only so so but the ones you pay for are cool and you get quite a buzz drinking the free vino for 2 hours while you cook....a tip..don't volunteer to do the cutting of veggies..too much work and takes time away from the free booze!:martini:  I went to 2 of them and the chef even gave me an extra bottle of vino to take to dinner and since it was ships vino there was no corkage charged...the chef from the specialty restaurant did the cooking class and gave us a tour of the kitchen as well.

Thanks Mike. Well at this time, it looks like we may try the Oosterdam on for size in the spring. It was a hard decision between the Solstice or this one. All is based on the ports, Venice and Croatia are the draw. The other cruise we were going to stay in Italy for awhile, but this one we will just come home post cruise. So costs are equal... I will finally get to do HAL once before I croak!
I still can't find the liquor on the order sheet though, so when I get down to putting a deposit on it, I'll call them and ask away. Apparently this Apr is a soft dry dock......????? Can they come up with anymore types of dry docks???
