Disney Magic will return to the U.S. West Coast for the summer of 2008 with a dozen seven-night Mexican Riviera sailings from Los Angeles.
Departing on Sundays, the ship will visit Cabo San Lucas on Tuesdays, Mazatlán on Wednesdays and Puerto Vallarta on Thursdays.
‘When we launched our first Disney Cruise Line Mexican Riviera sailings in 2005, the guest reaction to the itinerary was tremendous. We have a significant Disney Cruise Line fan base on the West Coast, and we look forward to taking the Disney Magic back to the Port of Los Angeles in 2008,’ said DCL president Tom McAlpin.
The program will operate May 25 through the week of Aug. 10. Two 15-night Panama Canal transits bookend the season.
Bookings open Jan. 31 for the cruises, which are priced starting at $1,599 per person for the Mexican Riviera and $1,699 for the Panama Canal. Two-night pre- and post-cruise stays at one of Disney’s three Anaheim resorts will be available as add-ons.

That's nice for those cruisers who live on the west coast. I've never done a Mexican Riviiera cruise.......it's just too easy to zip down to Fla and cruise out of there.
Although, I would like to try a cruise out of NOLA sometimes.

The left coasters should like this! They are always wanting more ships and itineraries. I don't know about those prices though.

I got an email from DCL yesterday about this and talked briefly about it with DW. Since RCI, NCL, HAL, and Celebrity have already left the Mexican Riviera for Alaska by this time of year, only the Carnival Pride sails the Mex. Riv. during this same period.
Our debate is that by then, our DDs will be 14 and 11, so we question whether they will even appreciate the "extras" that Disney would provide. I figure the cost would be almost twice what Carnival or one of the other lines would be and we only live 4 hours from Disneyland/California Adventure.
With the ages of DDs, would they enjoy DCL? Is it worth the extra cost, or do we do another cruise, save the difference and go to Disneyland?

I don't have kids, so am obviously not an expert on things like this..........but, I would imagine that, at that age, they would enjoy a Carnival or RCCL cruise more. But then agian, I have never been on a Disney cruise, either. How does the youth programs compare on those 3 lines, especially for older kids/teens?

| I suppose if you really, really love Disney then that would be worth the extra money. However, with teens it's hard to say. Personally, I'd save the money, go on a cheaper cruise and hit Disneyland!

| I bet some are happy about this. I've done one Mexican Riv. cruise and I really liked it. I'm with Deb...I would go on a cheaper cruise and bank the $$$ But I understand why a Disney cruise would be appealing to some.

| I guess the Med did not work out good for Disney unless they are going to rotate back and forth from one year to the next. Disney really needs to build at least one more ship so that they can keep one on the west coast year round.

Gordon, I think that is a great idea.
FamilyMan- Its hard to say. Disney offers a great product, but pricing is crazy. The ship and service are wonderful. We loved our 7 night cruise and would consider them again sometime. But as you can see (or used to be able to see) I have the Freedom of the Seas booked. With a 10 year old (when we sail) we thought this would be just as appealing. He loves the idea of the Disney Cruise, but loves the idea of the surfing, rock climbing, basketball etc. more. He thinks this will be more fun. Your children are a bit older. I know the kids clubs are incredible for the younger set, and your 11 year old might still find it fun, but your teenager may think it is "lame". I haven't had experience with the older kids. There is a huge movie screen in one of the pool areas now if they like that. There are also plenty of areas for Mom and Dad time if you are so inclined. The cost difference for same time in January, similar islands (Key West on Disney replaced by Ocho Rios and Castaway Cay on Disney replaced by Labadee) is about $1,600 for similar balcony cabin midship. Good luck deciding.

That's what I am afraid of from both of them. My youngest is actually the athlete and would probably enjoy a Voyager Class ship more than a Disney ship. Unfortunately, we don't have any Voyager Class ships on the Left Coast.
There was a rumor going around CC that RCI was moving AOS to the West Coast in a few years. We can only hope.....

| That may happen with RCI moving a Voyager class ship to the west coast but I just can't see RCI placing the third Freedom class ship in San Juan when they have to reduce the price to the locals to fill the AOS. It may happen who knows.

It doesn't make economic sense to put a ship that large in San Juan if they can't fill the AOS. Does Princess also cut their prices to the locals like RCI and Carnival?

There is a basketball/soccer/floor hockey court on the Magic. But I didn't see any organized events going on. Mostly kids just shooting around.

They all have to cut prices from time to time to feel the ships. I have no desire to sail out of San Juan. It has nothing to do with the local folks on board. I just don't like San Juan enough to fly down a day or two early to visit prior to boarding a ship. I would much rather do a ten night from FLL to the southern Caribbean.

I wish I had the time to do another 10 day cruise. It's just the right length. I actually loved Old San Juan itself, but sailing out of there is another story. DH on the other hand, want to do another southern route so I may have to give in soon. Hmmm, maybe I could be persuaded!

Hi Guys! Finally found you all thanks to the Wog! Alot has happened since I last signed on anywhere. We built a house, moved, and had a baby, who is now 3 months old! Whew, I am tired!
I got the flier in the mail and I think we will actually do this cruise. I've wanted to do Mexican Riviera, heard it was warmer waters in summer months, kids will be 6 and 8, leave baby at home, do Disneyland. Yeah. I'm hoping for an SPR! We'll see what DU can do for me.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!
I hate the SJU airport---it's terrible. I have sailed out of SJU many times before, but that is enough.....never again!
The 10-day cruises are perfect for me, too!

Hey Voss. Glad you came by. You got my PM I see. JC just had a European experience.
We need pics of the baby.

Yeah, popped over to the dis to read up a little...sounds like tomorrow is going to be hectic. DU has stopped taking requests! I'm just wondering if I should call myself first thing to make sure I get what I want and then transfer to DU. I mean...what if I'm 30th on my DU TA's list and by the time she gets to my name, what I want is gone? Not sure if I'll have time to do that before work, but I think others will be doing that sort of thing...which of course, drives up the price!
Baby pics...I just had some done at JC Penney on Sunday. I'll see if I can get the link to view. She is adorable! Aren't all babies?
Can you point me to JC's european experience? No time to search.

I booked! 8/3/08 Disney Mexican Riviera! Woohoo! Got online and saw an SPR, so snagged it. Transferred to DU for onboard credit. Now to learn about Disneyland for a pre or post cruise trip.
Also, does anyone know much about possibility of hurricanes on west coast?

Check out these articles. Chances are good that you won't get them, just not 100%.

We don't do hurricanes on the west coast! :D actually there are a few but are kinda rare and since they move north from panama and then west away from Mexico...not near the worry as on east coast
but if you like disasters we have plenty of earthquakes, mudslides and fires to entertain you!
