Disney Wonder set for drydock upgrades
19/9/2006
More amenities for adults, children and families will be added to Disney Wonder during a two-week drydock in Norfolk next month. A number of features, such as the addition of a poolside jumbo LED screen, emulate those made to Disney Magic during its drydock last year. Others are new.
An extension is designed for Disney Wonder’s Mickey Pool (for toddlers) on Deck 9, which provides interactive fountains and splash zones. On the same deck, a 336-square-foot LED screen will be affixed to the forward funnel, enabling families at the Goofy Pool to watch classic Disney movies, sports events and TV shows.
A new computer simulator inspired by the ship’s navigational bridge will allow children at Oceaneer Lab (ages 8-12) to see what it’s like to steer the Disney Wonder into and out of port. Oceaneer Club (ages 3-7) will expand on its Neverland theme and revamp the Captain’s Closet dress-up area, creating more space for hands-on activities and additional PlayStations and computer stations.
The Vista Spa and Salon will gain three spa villas, linking a treatment suite with a private verandah equipped with a personal hot tub, open-air shower and chaise lounge. The fitness center will double in size, adding 1,700 square feet for additional class and consultation space, bringing the spa’s total size to 10,700 square feet.
The adjacent Quiet Cove adult pool will undergo a makeover to add waterfalls cascading from the two hot tubs and cushioned teak deck and lounge chairs. Disney said the area will look like an outdoor extension of the Vista Spa.
For business travelers, three conference rooms on Deck 2 will sport new decorative elements and the latest business presentation tools, including LED flat-screen TVs. The meeting space will also host a business center, computer stations and a refreshment bar. In addition, more WiFi Internet stations will be added inside the adult coffee bar, Cove Café, on Deck 9.
