MIAMI, FL, Feb 12 – Guests who sail aboard the Costa Luminosa, Costa Cruises’ newest flagship, will enjoy state-of-the-art entertainment in the ship’s theatre that will feature entertainment and special effects unlike anything offered in the Italian company’s fleet of 12 ships. Currently under construction at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard, the 92,700 gross-ton Costa Luminosa is scheduled for delivery in April 2009 and will be the newest flagship in the fleet. The latest highlight in her construction was the insertion of two blocks, one weighing 444 tons and one 280 tons, which together will comprise the “heart” of the ship’s unique and innovative theatre. The theatre will seat 800 people on three levels.
The Costa Luminosa will provide accommodations for 2,828 people and will offer the very best of the Costa product from wellness and spa, to entertainment and art, fine food and wine as well as itineraries. The new theatre will be one of the main innovations on the ship with its highly sophisticated structure that will have a surface area of 1,300 square meters, and a height of nearly 10 meters. While specific details related to exact features will be forthcoming, guests can count on amenities and technology that will make it a model for similar entertainment facilities built ashore. In particular, innovative “LED” technology will ensure a special effects capability so spectacular that it will create a veritable “show within a show.”
