Still trying to decide my  cruise for 2008 winter and Costa has some nice Caribbean itineraries.

Can anyone tell me how formal is "formal wear" on Costa.  DH does not like to wear suits on vacation but I could probably get him into a sports coat and nice pants.

Can anyone who has cruised with Costa tell me if sports coat and pants would be "enough" on formal night?

Also what sort of "alternate" dining does Costa have (other than the main dining room)?

Thanks for any help.

Hey, zeno!   Sorry, I have no idea about Costa, but I wanted to pop in and say HI! :big grin:

Zeno, I'm glad you're getting more responses to this question over on the dark side than you are here. Wish I could help you out, but it's been 2-1/2 years since we were on Costa and I'm thinking it's probably gotten a lot more relaxed since then. Back then DH rented a tux on board, and quite a few people were dressed to the nines.

Zeno, both of the ships that are in the Caribbean this winter have alternative dining, including the buffet and a specialty restaurant (described in their brochure as a Tuscan Steakhouse with an Italian twist).  They also have a poolside grill.

Somehow, on an Italian cruise, I don't think anyone goes hungry.  :big grin:

We're also looking at Costa as a possibility for early March.  The Western itinerary with the addition of Grand Turk is very intriguing.

Well, Costa's not just a possibility any longer...we're booking!  :tropics:

And the pre-cruise hotel is booked with Starwood points, too!

It's the Grand Turk itinerary that appeals to me too.   We have been to T&C but just to Provo and North Caicos - never been to Grand Turk (although on Provo we met people who were from there or had been there).  Sounds like great beaches!

We're booking for March 2, and staying 1 or 2 nights (depending on what I can come up with for air) at the Sheraton Yankee Trader.

Come on along!!

Where is Sheraton Yankee trader located?  If we go for Costa, we will probably be coming down a night or two early - so I will have to find a hotel.

We would be going (probably) in January or Feb.

It's almost three miles from the pier, no shuttle, but the price is right.  Looks like taxi should be around $10-15 from the airport or the pier.

Is this the Ft. Lauderdale hotel? If so, and if I remember right, it's nearly next door to the hotel where the water taxi makes a stop. #8 on the water taxi map. Very convenient when you want to go to places like Las Olas or the 15th St. Fisheries.

That's the one.  Guess I missed that "minor detail".  :big grin:

Now, if Costa will just give us confirmation (it's an agent rate -- no, not free --, so it usually takes longer), then we can start watching the airfare.

Air fares are dreadful from here right now - so maybe? it's a good thing I can't book yet.

Got my brochure yesterday.

Well, still no confirmation, but it's charged on my card, so that's confirmation enough for now.  Usually the agent rate confirmation aren't that quick to come in.
