The Lovin' Spoonful

Joy To the World! Online Vacation Center is thrilled to present Cruising to Music, an exclusive cruise featuring the incomparable sounds of Three Dog Night and the one and only The Lovin' Spoonful!
From 1969-1974, nobody had more Top 10 hits, moved more records, or sold more concert tickets than Three Dog Night. During this period Three Dog Night was undoubtedly the most popular band in America: twenty-one consecutive Top 40 hits and twelve straight gold LPs. By late '75, they had sold nearly 50 million records. From Old Fashioned Love Song to Mama Told Me Not to Come, their hits wind through the fabric of popular culture for the past four decades. Cruising to Music is honored to host the band during their first "at sea" concert appearance.
In early 1965 as the "British Invasion" dominated American music, two rockers from Long Island teamed up with two folkies from Greenwich Village to form The Lovin' Spoonful and go on to record & perform some of the songs that would rule the charts and establish them among the greats of the era. Combining the best of folk music and rock and roll with a touch of country, they gave us such hits as Do You Believe in Magic, You Didn't Have to be So Nice and Summer in the City.

LOL, Gurl, but I don't think I'll be able to get away in March unless the markets take a MAJOR upswing. We're going 1/5-1/16, 6/8-22, and two weeks after Thanksgiving. Then, we'll probably get back on our regular schedule and go in Jan. '09 again, too. And, I've just found a good price on the Carnival Victory out of NYC on 9/3 and asked my TA for a quote; I'll be hitting DH up when he gets home. (Poor guy -- if he only knew what was headed his way... :big grin: ) Thanks for asking!

This one sounds GREAT!

I love those bands too.  If we weren't already going out on April 4th,

I would have definitely considered this one.

What's the deal with Costa anyway?  i don't know anything about them.

DH and my first cruise, in 3/05, was on the Costa Atlantica. We LOVED it!!! Of course, getting upgraded from a balcony to a cat. 2 suite didn't hurt our impression of the cruiseline, either.

Costa typically positions two ships in the Caribbean market in the winter, beginning early in December until mid-April/beginning of May. Because Costa is an Italian cruiseline, the clientelle is predominantly European, but they have been marketing much more heavily to Americans since about the beginning of 2005. (Announcements were in five or more languages!) DH and I love to travel internationally, so we really liked the international feel of Costa. They had an international night aboard which was LOADS of fun, and the last night on the Caribbean itineraries is always toga night. (To-GA, To-GA!)

The Costa Atlantica and her sister ship, the Mediterranea, are both built on Carnival frames and decorated by Carnival's designer, Joe Farcas. I think they're in the same line as the Victory. The newer Costa ships are probably along the same lines as Carnival's newer, larger ships, too, such as the Legend and Miracle. What's unique about their two newest ships is an exclusive spa cabin area, which features suites that come with special spa privileges and its own spa dining area. A first in the industry!

Dana, I really don't know a lot about them either. If you're interested, you might check out the sticky with a link to their Web site.

That's exactly what I was thinking, Dana!! I would LOVE to go on this cruise---I love all the bands. But, with an April 4 sailing to the Panama Canal, I just don't think it's do-able. :(
